Rarely do first takes on a song become the master tracks for an artist, but that's how chart-topping history began for Crystal Gayle's 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.' Now, four decades later, Gayle's signature hit marks its 40th anniversary since its release on June 24, 1977.

Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival , one of New York's premier summer performance series, kicks off its 51st season on July 25. Among the highlights in the first two weeks are a special opening concert led by Louis Langrée, Renée and Robert Belfer Music Director, featuring traditional and indigenous songs from Mozart's time; a choral presentation by Les Arts Florissants; and guest conductors Edward Gardner and Gianandrea Noseda; festival debuts by more than 10 artists, including Kit Armstrong, Janai Brugger, Jennifer Johnson Cano, S? Percussion, Beatrice Rana, Ksenija Sidorova, and the Young People's Chorus of New York City; and the New York premiere of David Lang's concerto for percussion, man made. The Hollywood Bowl has announced the cast and creative team for a benefit performance of SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, conceived and directed on Broadway by James Lapine.

Bernard Labadie (photo: Francois Rivard) Hailed as “one of the most versatile and galvanic ensembles in the U.S.” (WQXR), Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) was first formally founded at Caramoor 38 years ago, and has long made the idyllic estate its summer home. Fittingly, then, it is at Caramoor – 90 acres of picturesque Italianate architecture and gardens in Katonah, Westchester, just one hour's drive from Manhattan – that French-Canadian conductor Bernard Labadie makes his eagerly anticipated OSL debut this summer, before launching a four-year tenure as the ensemble's new Principal Conductor in the fall of 2018. One of the world's foremost exponents of 18th-century repertoire, Labadie leads an all-Mozart program, pairing three early symphonies with the charming Concerto for Flute and Harp (July 2).

Laguna Playhouse has announced that acclaimed actor Hal Linden (replacing the previously announced Bruce Davison) has been added to its very special theatrical event also starring Gregory Harrison, Dan Lauria, Charles Shaughnessy, French Stewart & Vanessa Stewart in TESLA: A RADIO PLAY FOR THE STAGE, written by Dan Duling and directed by Michael Arabian.

Eminent maestro Vladimir Spivakov and the acclaimed Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will perform at Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30 PM as a part of their seven-city North American tour. Joining them are the brilliant soprano and Metropolitan Opera star Hibla Gerzmava - last heard at the Met in 2016 as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello, and who recently made her La Scala Opera debut in the title role in Donizetti's Anna Bolena - and 14-year-old Israeli prodigy, cellist Danielle Akta. 

Skylight Music Theatre closes the 2016-17 season with Stephen Sondheim's Tony-Award winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The musical thriller runs Friday, May 19 through Sunday, June 11, 2017 in the Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, Historic Third Ward, Milwaukee.

Artistic director of Arena Stage in Washington DC Molly Smith directs John Strand's The Originalist about the Supreme Court onstage at the Pasadena Playhouse beginning April 11. The play focuses on a clerkship between a young woman and recently deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia portrayed by Edward Gero. It fits the times to perfection as the two characters spar on a grand scale to defend their interpretation of the truth as written in our constitution.
