The Rock Steady Crew Next to Play SummerStage, 7/28

Next up on SummerStage is The Rock Steady Crew's 36th Anniversary Concert featuring a reunion performance by Pete Rock & C.L Smooth, Brand Nubian (Sadat X, Lord Jamar and Grand Puba), Special Ed and Craig G with Q-Unique, Homeboy Sandman, Torae and Rasheed Chappell. The July 28 show is a part of the 'This is Hip Hop' series and will be hosted by EOW with DJ Evil Dee and DJ JS-1. The show runs from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in Central Park with a recommended arrival time of 2:00 p.m.

Josie Rourke's THE WEIR Revival to Transfer to Wyndham's Theatre, Jan 2014

According to the Daily Mail, Josie Rourke's Donmar Warehouse production of Conor McPherson's THE WEIR will be transferring to Wyndham's Theatre in the West End, beginning January 16, 2014, for a January 22nd opening. The show stars Risteard Cooper, Brian Cox, Dervla Kirwan, Peter McDonald and Ardal O'Hanlon.

Rising Phoenix Rep and Kid Brooklyn to Bring THE BEACH PLAYS to the Bay, 7/13-14

Rising Phoenix Rep and Kid Brooklyn Productions have announced their first collaboration, The Beach Plays, a production of five newly commissioned short plays written to be performed on San Francisco's Ocean Beach. The plays will be fully produced and presented environmentally, with audiences gathering in front of the gift shop at The Cliff House at 1090 Point Lobos Ave, San Francisco, Calif., and traveling to and through the plays on foot.

The Music Center will partner with Los Angeles Ballet to present that company's productions of Agon and Rubies this evening, July 6 at 7:30 pm, free to the public. Both have music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by George Balanchine. This free event, under the stars in Grand Park and open to everyone, is part of the broad array of free public events The Music Center is presenting at Grand Park. The event is a one of a kind opportunity to spread a blanket, bring a picnic basket, and enjoy ballet in a whole new way.

The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - tonight, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

OPERA America, the national nonprofit service organization for opera, is pleased to announce details of Opera Conference 2013: Opera Out of Bounds, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia from May 7-11. Northrop at the University of Minnesota and Emily Johnson received a $30,000 MAP Fund grant to support the incubation and development of Emily Johnson's SHORE, set to premiere at Northrop in June of 2014 and a $155,000 Doris Duke Residency to Build Demand for the Arts to support a partnership between Northrop and Johnson designed to create greater demand for contemporary dance throughout the region, particularly in Native American communities. Johnson will work in residence at the University of Minnesota's Institute for Advanced Study during 2013-14.

The casts for both shows represent a gathering of some of the finest exponents of McPherson's work and the back to back productions will allow audiences to see his latest work alongside his recognised masterpiece.
