On January 29, 1993, the Lowcountry entertainment scene changed forever. On this date, the North Charleston Coliseum opened its doors for the first time. The show was World Figure Skating Champions featuring Olympic champions Elizabeth Manley and Marina Klimova & Sergio Ponomarenko.  The next night, country music superstars Alan Jackson and Lorrie Morgan took the stage for the first concert in the Coliseum. Both shows had capacity crowds and the Lowcountry finally had a world class entertainment venue. In the years following, the biggest names in music and entertainment would make North Charleston a regular stop on their world tours.

Chicago comedian and kates creator Kelsie Huff hosts the all-female comedy showcase at the legendary comedy club, The Improv. the kates, a ten-year comedy showcase created by Kelsie Huff and featuring the funniest female stand-ups in Chicago, perform at the Chicago Improv on Jan. 25th 7:30pm for One Night Only! Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) presents the East Village Series, its first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution's new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. This presentation of works from some of today's most radical performers and multidisciplinary artists resituates the institution in newly revamped spaces, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, in 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street), where Performance Space 122 was founded, and where it operated until it moved out in 2011 for the building renovation. The series contemplates the past, present, and future of the organization and its neighborhood.

On Stage at Kingsborough brings top notch performing arts to Southern Brooklyn with an eclectic roster of artists spanning multiple genres including cabaret, dance, music, and family programming. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents an encore of choreographer Jodi Melnick's sold-out 2016 commission, NEW BODIES. This Works & Process commissioned work weaves together dance, spoken text, and moderated discussion with live music, featuring New York City Ballet dancers Jared Angle, Sara Mearns, and Taylor Stanley in a role originated by Gretchen Smith, with harpsichord by composer Gy rgy Ligeti, violin by composer Heinrich Biber, and commissioned music by Robert Boston.Also, Melnick, who enjoyed a performance career with Twyla Tharp (among many others), will perform One of Sixty-Five Thousand Gestures, a solo work created in collaboration with the late Trisha Brown.

In 1944, MGM debuted a new family classic for the ages. Centering on the Smith family of St. Louis, Missouri, the musical Meet Me in St. Louis follows a year in the life of the large, tight-knit clan as they navigate an auspicious year in the city's history. Going season by season, the film's focus is set on the Smith's eager anticipation the arrival of the World's Fair in their beloved hometown.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the Spring 2018 Music Series, which runs January through April and features an eclectic lineup of premieres and performances by international musicians. The 501(c)3 organization is facing financial challenges and is seeking an increase in funding from the City of Crystal Lake. The second show of Mosaic Theater's Season Three, Vicu a & The American Epilogue, has been officially extended through December 3. Written by Jon Robin Baitz (Other Desert Cities; TV's Brothers & Sisters, and Feud Season 2) and directed by Robert Egan, this Trump-inspired satire stars John de Lancie (Star Trek, Breaking Bad) as a real estate mogul about to enter the final presidential debate of the 2016 campaign. It is followed by a haunting post-script set 12 years into the future assessing the state of the nation and all that's been wrought in the election's wake.
