SHOWTIME is bringing its hot new comedy BLACK MONDAY and hit drama THE CHI to 2018 ESSENCE Festival. On Friday, July 6, THE CHI creator and executive producer Lena Waithe will headline a keynote conversation on the ESSENCE Empowerment Experience Stage and will later appear in the Great Hall to discuss THE CHI. All 500 fans who attend Waithe's Q&A at the Great Hall will receive $25 gift certificates to the SHOWTIME streaming service. On Saturday, July 7, BLACK MONDAY star Regina Hall returns to the Festival after the success of Girls Trip to debut the first footage from the highly anticipated new SHOWTIME comedy series exclusively for Essence Festival attendees, followed by a moderated Q&A. At the BLACK MONDAY conversation, SHOWTIME will give out 40 tickets to select fans for a meet and greet with Hall at the Fan Zone immediately following her Q&A. The debut season of BLACK MONDAY and season two of THE CHIwill premiere on the network in 2019.

Principal Pops Conductor Michael Feinstein opens the 2018 Pasadena POPS Sierra Summer Concert Series on Saturday, June 23rd with That's Entertainment: Gershwin to Sondheim. The POPS season opener will cover the gamut of the Great American Songbook from jazz standards to Broadway hits, and vintage charts that can't be heard anywhere else. Bad times make great art, so this year's Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) should be amazing! And so BFF announces today the film lineup for its 21st edition: THRESHOLD. Like an aircraft entering the threshold on runway “21,” BFF takes off on Friday, June 1st at returning venue: Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg. Over the course of the 10-day festival, BFF proudly presents film programs at Wythe Hotel, nearby returning venue Windmill Studios in Greenpoint, and five more screening venues throughout Brooklyn. Lookingglass Theatre Company concludes its 30th Anniversary season with the world premiere of 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas adapted by David Kersnar and Althos Low, from the books by Jules Verne, directed by Ensemble Member David Kersnar. 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas runs May 23 - August 19, 2018 at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. ise Lindstrom has returned to San Diego to sing the lead in Puccini's Turandot. We spoke for nearly an hour in a rehearsal room at the San Diego Civic Center where she'd just finished working on makeup for the performance. You might think that someone with Lindstrom's powerful voice would have known, and been told from the age of twelve or so, that she was destined to become an opera star. But it didn't happen that way for the well-known dramatic soprano, nor is it likely to for any other would-be diva. No matter how potentially great your voice is, it takes a bit of luck and a whole lot of hard work to become a success.

Blue Moon Mexican Café Wyckoff presents Black Diamond - one of the best rock music cover bands from the tristate area on Friday, February 9th at 9:30pm at Blue Moon Wyckoff. Black Diamond was formed by high school friends almost 30 years ago and band members include vocalist, Ryan Kenny, bassist Adam Goodell, drummer Doug Lodema and guitarists Jerry Koenig and Rob Campanelli.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces two performances presented by Carnegie Hall in Zankel Hall during the 2018-2019 season. In 2018-2019, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, ACO continues its commitment to the creation, performance, preservation, and promotion of music by American composers, with programming that reflects the infinite ways American orchestral music illustrates geographic, stylistic, gender, and racial diversity. ACO's concerts at Carnegie Hall include premieres by 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winner Du Yun, by composer and Imani Winds flutist Valerie Coleman, and by Alex Temple, a composer who integrates love for pop culture and the Western classical tradition. Based on Victor Hugo's 1862 novel of the same name, Les Miserables tells the story of an ex-convict who after serving nineteen years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread, goes on a quest for redemption. When a kind bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy, the ex-convict known as Jean Valjean breaks his parole as he decides to start his life anew. As time goes on, Valjean has relentlessly been pursued by a ruthless police inspector, hoping to bring him to justice. Though along the way, a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade during a revolutionary period in France.

Under the baton of Jaime Laredo, the New York String Orchestra, an ensemble of young players from around the world who come together each year for a seminar of rehearsals and performance preparation, will give its two annual concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage in late December. For more than 40 years, the orchestra has celebrated joyous music-making in concert on Christmas Eve. This year, on Sunday, December 24 at 7:00 p.m., the orchestra is joined by violinist Pamela Frank, who was once a student of Mr. Laredo, for Mozart's Sinfonia concertante on a program that also includes Vivaldi's Concerto in A Minor for Two Violins, Strings, and Continuo from L'estro armonico as well as Haydn's Drumroll Symphony. On Thursday, December 28 at 8:00 p.m., pianist Richard Goode is featured in Mozart's dramatic Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor. Also on the program is Gabriela Lena Frank's work Eleg a Andina inspired by Peruvian pan pipes and Mendelssohn's vibrant Scottish Symphony.
