Trinity Rep's seventh annual playwriting competition for New England High School students, WRITE HERE! WRITE NOW! announces this year's winning playwrights: Kate Fitzgerald (Lincoln School, Providence), Jonathan Baron (La Salle Academy, Providence), James Roberts (Putney School, Putney, VT and Emma Paulhus (Dighton Rehoboth Regional High School, MA) Each award-winning student will have their ten-minute play presented by professional actors as a staged reading at Trinity Rep on May 7, 2018 at 7 pm, a free event open to the public.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced programming for its 2018-2019 theater season. The upcoming season not only exemplifies the Kennedy Center as a home for the best theater productions from Broadway and around the world, but also reinvigorates the Center's commitment to self-producing world-class theatrical work at the nation's performing arts center.

She stars in Delaware Theatre Company's regional premiere of ELLA: First Lady of Song, opening April 18.

The Eagle Theatre has announced an incredible five-show lineup for its 2019 season, which includes; Gary, a futuristic World Premiere by celebrated local playwright Bruce Graham, the Regional Premiere of Karen Zacari?as' comedy, Native Gardens, a lavish and loving staging of the epic musical blockbuster, Ragtime, by the writers of Once On This Island, Anastasia, Rocky: The Musical, an exciting adventure-filled bluegrass musical experience entitled The Burnt Part Boys, and Dogfight, a hauntingly romantic pop musical by Pasek & Paul, composers of Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman.

Trinity Rep closes out its 2017-18 Season with the Tony Award-winning musical Ragtime, which was written by Terrence McNally (book), Stephen Flaherty (music), and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics). Under the direction of Artistic Director Curt Columbus, Trinity Rep's production examines how the musical, which is set in 1906, reflects the country's current political and social climate. Based on the celebrated 1975 novel of the same name by E.L. Doctorow, the musical tackles race, women's rights, immigration, and workers' rights.

Spring's rebirth in March invites magical thoughts of budding romance. A beloved multi-award winning musical rom-com, She Loves Me, sings in the sunny emotions and weather at Anoka's Lyric Arts. The playful musical first ran on Broadway in 1963, and was translated from Miklos Laszlo's 1937 play "Parfumerie." Joe Masteroff's book partnered with music composed by Jerry Bock together with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, capture the perfect notes to a tangled romance between two store clerks, Amalia and Georg, in 1934 Budapest. The two clash on the small boutique's floor while unknowingly sending each other letters to 'Dear Friend (Yes, they used real snail mail).

Trinity Repertory Company announced today that three area residents will be honored at its 2018 Pell Awards Gala on Monday, May 21, 2018 in Providence.  Pawtucket-based designer and artist Morris Nathanson will receive a Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts. Longtime Providence philanthropist and arts advocate Jane S. Nelson will receive the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts will go to Jeannine Chartier in recognition of her work with VSA arts Rhode Island. Additional honorees will be announced at a later date.

Artistic Director Braden Abraham today announced Seattle Repertory Theatre's new eight-play 2018/2019 season, which features a sweeping theatrical adaptation of a best-selling novel, a world premiere from a local playwright, a Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, a thriller direct from London's West End, and more.

Tony Award-winning Trinity Repertory Company, under the artistic leadership of Arthur P. Solomon and Sally E. Lapides Artistic Director Curt Columbus, announced the company's 55th season today. The 2018-19 Season, which includes a six-play subscription series plus a limited-run special engagement and the 41st annual production of A Christmas Carol, is one of the largest the company has ever produced and one of the most diverse. The season will run from October 4, 2018 through June 16, 2019. Casting announcements for the season will begin later this spring.

Trinity Repertory Company is proud to announce the commission of a number of new playwrights and artists, including George Brant to write the stage version of The New York Times bestseller The Prince of Providence: The Life and Times of Buddy Cianci, America's Most Notorious Mayor, Some Wiseguys, and the Feds by Mike Stanton. Trinity Rep obtained the underlying rights to the book from Stanton and subsequently commissioned Brant to create a play or musical adaptation. The resulting script will go through a series of workshops to prepare it for production on the Trinity Rep stage in a future season. Casting will be announced at a future date. The book, which came out in 2004, examines the life and notorious political story of Buddy Cianci, the two-term mayor whose corruption led to federal investigations.

This exhibition at the National Theatre celebrates The Old Vic's 200th birthday and highlights an extraordinary and innovative period in British theatre history. Located on The Cut, just south of the river in Lambeth, The Old Vic first opened its doors 1818. In 1963 the National Theatre was established and spent its first 13 years at The Old Vic.

In honor of Women's History Month, American Repertory Ballet proudly performs Douglas Martin's 'Rite of Spring,' as part of its Generations: Influences from the Modern Age program being presented this spring at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ; The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College in New York City; and McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, N.J. 

Trinity Repertory Company will open Karen Zacarias' Native Gardens in April. This hilarious comedy of being neighborly brings commentary on the American Dream, the racial divide, and what happens when we build fictional (and literal) fences.

Trinity Repertory Company is delighted to announce Rhode Island Latino Arts's (RILA) executive director Marta V. Martinez has been invited to join the theater as an Artist-in-Residence. As an Artist-in-Residence, Martinez will advise Trinity Rep as they develop theater-based programs by and for the Latinx people of Rhode Island. Martinez will also study how Trinity Rep produces their plays, develops new work, and structures their theater education programs for young people, in the hopes of creating an independent bilingual theater company.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Anna D. Shapiro and Executive Director David Schmitz proudly unveiled today the 2018/19 Season.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $25 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $15,000 to Trinity Rep for its production of Ragtime, based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow with music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Trinity Rep's seventh annual playwriting competition for New England High School students, Write Here! Write Now!, is now accepting entries. Students are asked to compose an original ten-minute play and submit it via the online application form at www.trinityrep.com/whwn. The submission deadline is March 5, 2018.

On March 23, Craft Recordings will release The Thousand Incarnations Of The Rose: American Primitive Guitar and Banjo (1963-1974) on 2LP, CD, and digital. This new compilation celebrates the groundbreaking, inventive approach to traditional instrumentation brought forward by an impressive group of maverick artists whose interpretations of folk, blues, and traditional song gave rise to one of American music's most unique and influential stylistic schools, known today as American Primitive. Featured artists on the compilation, which serves as a 'Who's Who' of the genre, include John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Robbie Basho, Harry Taussig and more. The two-LP vinyl edition features deluxe gatefold packaging, and a tipped-in booklet containing new liner notes by compilation producer Glenn Jones and illustrations by Drew Christie. The CD configuration comes housed in a softpack and features a booklet containing both Jones' notes and Christie's artwork.

Trinity Rep is pleased to announce that its 2017 collection of donations for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank surpassed its previous record, raising a total of $65,395.21. Since 2006, Trinity Rep has collected donations from audience members during its annual production of A Christmas Carol. This tradition is part of the theater's commitment to its community and a reminder to audiences to bring the spirit of Dickens' story into their lives and the rest of Rhode Island. This year's collection brings the total raised over the past twelve years to over $450,000.

Set in 1942 Providence, the play follows the women of the fictional Oberon Playhouse, who endeavor to continue with their Shakespearean production even though the company's men (including their director) are fighting overseas in World War II. The women's dedication to each other and the theater is a delightful celebration of art and community.

Trinity Repertory Company will open William Shakespeare's Othello in February. This production continues Trinity Rep's long tradition of generating productions of Shakespearean plays that are relevant and accessible to adult and student audiences throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Under the direction of Brown/Trinity Rep MFA alumna Whitney White '15, the powerful play will explore military themes, as well as the friendships and relationships that form the basis for the legendary story of betrayal and jealousy. The play runs approximately two hours and 20 minutes with one 15 minute intermission. Othello runs February 15 through March 18, with press opening on Monday, February 19 at 7:30 pm. Trinity Repertory Company invites the public to nominate outstanding local artists for the 2018 Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts. The Pell Awards' criteria include excellence in the artist's chosen field, work that significantly advances the art form, and contribution to the betterment of the community and the world at large through artistic presence and community service. Awards will be presented at the theater's gala event on Monday, May 21, 2018.
