Leicester's Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome today announce the full casting for their co-production of Oprah Winfrey's hit Broadway musical, The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker. Emmy Award winner and Chicago Musical Theatre and Cabaret performer Scott Gryder has been cast as the principal character in Pride Films and Plays' upcoming production of Jonathan Tolins's one-man comedy BUYER & CELLAR, according to the production's director Donterrio Johnson. Gryder will play all the characters in Tolin's comedy, but most notably, the role of Alex More - a struggling actor who takes a job managing a make-believe shopping mall in the basement of Barbra Streisand's Malibu home.

James Monroe Iglehart has made a name for himself on stage, starring in Aladdin and Hamilton on Broadway. Now, he's breaking into the comic book scene, according to Bleeding Cool!

Pride Films and Plays will mount Jonathan Tolin's one-man play BUYER & CELLAR in the Broadway Theater of the Pride Arts Center, according to the company's Executive Director David Zak. The production will be directed by Chicago-based Donterrio Johnson, whose many acting credits include his Jeff Award-winning Judas Iscariot in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR for Theo Ubique and most recently, his role as the Leading Player in Mercury Theater's production of PIPPIN. Johnson has also performed as an actor with Pride Films and Plays, in productions including UNDER A RAINBOW FLAG.

Raven Theatre announces its 2019-20 Season, kicking off this fall with the Chicago premiere of Rachel Bonds' drama SUNDOWN, YELLOW MOON, directed by Artistic Director Cody Estle and featuring music and lyrics by The Bengsons. This warm, delicate play with music is an honest look at the hard work of holding a family together and re-connecting with what we've left behind.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) will present 17 Border Crossings, created and performed by NYTW Usual Suspect Thaddeus Phillips (A Billion Nights on Earth), and directed by Tatiana Mallarino (Red Eye to Havre de Grace). This will be Thaddeus Phillips's third collaboration with NYTW, following ¡El Conquistador! in 2006 and Red Eye to Havre de Grace in 2014.

11th Hour Theatre Company's Spotlight Series continues with Elena Camp and Rajeer Alford. New year, new Kilroys! For the past five years The Kilroys, an LA-based collective of playwrights/producers continuing the fight to achieve gender balance in the American theater, have been advocating for equal representation on our American stages, and have released an annual list of under-produced plays by women, trans, and non-binary writers. Despite some measurable progress, we still have a long way to go before we strike that balance. So, as we approach 2019, we are beyond thrilled to introduce a fresh new gang of fearless badass leaders. These women will seize our reins and continue the fight for equality, creating random acts of disruption along the way, while the OG Kilroys will serve as an advisory board supporting the current class. 

Black Button Eyes Productions concludes its 2018-19 season with the Chicago storefront premiere of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, a parody of Sam Raimi's classic Evil Dead horror films, with book and lyrics by George Reinblatt and music by Christopher Bond, Frank Cipolla, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt.

The Deck Restaurant and Bar at Bucks County Playhouse made its debut on Sunday, December 9, 2018 when it opened for an extended preview period prior to an official Grand Opening on Sunday, February 10, 2019.

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces the director and full cast for the Philadelphia premiere of Marsha Norman and Jason Robert Brown's sweeping musical version of the best-selling novel, The Bridges of Madison County. The production is the second of the inaugural season under Producing Artistic Director Paige Price. For Bridges, Price has tapped Mark Martino to direct a cast rich with local theatre stars and Barrymore Award-winners, alongside actors with notable national and Broadway credits. The cast is led by Philadelphia actress Sarah Gliko and PA Native and Broadway actor Gregg Goodbrod.  Recent Barrymore Award winner Amanda Morton (Passing Strange, Wilma Theater) will serve as the Music Director.
