Adam Savage's return to television is getting closer as host and executive producer of MythBusters Jr., a 10-episode series that will give six of the nation's most talented kids a chance to show off their amazing ingenuity and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) skills. They will tackle myths similar to those seen in MythBusters, ranging from driving, explosions, chemistry, physics, popular culture and more. The series is currently in production and will premiere in the Fourth Quarter of 2018 on Science Channel.

WHERE ALL GOOD RABBITS GO is a wonderfully performed show, presently running at the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance, and put on by the Thrown Stone Theatre Company. Dealing with the sensitive topic of potentially terminal sickness, this is a powerful production, brilliantly performed. I highly recommend it.

Acclaimed North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Malcolm Holcombe, “a troubadour seemingly from another age” (Elmore), will release his third album in as many years and his 13th studio album, Come Hell or High Water (Singular Recordings), on September 14. In support of the release, Holcombe will kick off a 25-city tourJuly 29, at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC. Broadway in the Finger Lakes is at it again in bringing a new and creative musical to audiences at Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, a theatrical gem located in Auburn's beautiful Emerson Park. The new musical Anne of Green Gables: A new Folk Rock Musical comes to the theatre directly from four sold out performances in Broadway in the Finger Lakes' 2017 theatre series, The PiTCH. The production is modern and creative and the show is truly something special.

Tear down the mountains. Yell, scream and shout for Dreamgirls, Playhouse on the Square's final musical offering of its 2017-2018 season. Co-directed and choreographed by Jordan Nichols and Travis Bradley, Playhouse on the Square's Dreamgirls is a two and a half hour theatrical energy drink, jam packed with slick production numbers performed by a fresh cast that is plainly up to the task of quenching the audience's thirst for a great time. There is much to be excited about with this production of Dreamgirls, which seems uniquely at home in Memphis, a city whose history and reputation are so intertwined with music and the superstars it has produced. Although the first third of Act I can be described as somewhat frenetic, the production quickly settles in and finds its footing, anchored by electrifying, well-directed performances by Breyannah Tillman as Effie, and Napoleon M. Douglas as Jimmy Early.

On stage the past weekend, Minneapolis's Guthrie Theater opened a production of of the iconic musical West Side Story in the Wurtlele Thrust Stage. The following Tuesday, June 26, the United States Supreme Court upheld the country's travel ban for seven countries, mainly located in the Middle East, on strict rules governing their admittance to the U.S. On Thursday, another shooting happened near Annapolis, Maryland, killing five people when a gunman opened fire through a glass door at a small newspaper office. In a powerful scene during this opening of West Side Story, the character of Doc addresses one of the two rival gangs named the Jets when they host a war council in his drug store: “Why do you live like there's a war on? Why do you kill?'

Today, multi-platinum award-winning singer/songwriter and global superstar Josh Groban announced his 8th studio album entitled, Bridges, which will be released on September 21st via Reprise Records. Conrad Ricamora is best-known to millions of TV viewers as Oliver, the cute computer whiz, on ABC's 'How to Get Away With Murder.' But this 2013 Theatre World Award winner also can slay an audience onstage as he has proven Off-Broadway in 'Here Lies Love' and on Broadway in 'The King and I.' And Ricamora is currently 'killing it' as the star of 'Soft Power,' David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori's bold, new musical. Directed by Leigh Silverman, it is playing through July 8 at the Curran in San Francisco.

North Carolina's indie-Americana darlings Mipso have released the official video for the track “Moonlight,” from their critically acclaimed new album Edges Run. Premiering with No Depression, the video illustrates the familiar and all-too-human emotion of feeling alone, even while surrounded by those you love the most. Songwriter Joseph Terrell explains, “I wrote 'Moonlight' after a breakup while I drove all day back to North Carolina from where I'd been living in Boston. I was sitting in summer traffic on the worst highway in America in a rented minivan full of all my stuff, and I kind of just had to laugh. There's that voice in your head that wants to tell the world, 'I'm totally fine!' when you're anything but.” Check out the video here.

The date was May 25th 2018. On the Friday evening blessed with clear skies, Graha Bhakti Budaya was filling out with people coming to watch the 9th musical drama production by Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC) - DREAMGIRLS. It was the opening night and the anticipation coming from everyone was palpable. The event had 7 months of preparation and promises of being bigger and better than before. Following last year's WEST SIDE STORY, JPAC once again bought the performance license for DREAMGIRLS, this time through Tams-Witmark Music Library.

Featuring a compelling script, some of the best acting you're bound to see anywhere locally (most notably from Jon Hudson Odom) under the swift and inspired direction by Marti Lyons, and strong production elements (even music!), this is an unpredictable "only at Woolly" experience you won't want to miss. The Tony Award-winning SPRING AWAKENING begs the question: 'How will we know what to do if our parents won't tell us?' The provocative show, which opened June 1st, closes out North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre's (NRACT) 2017-2018 season. Adapted from Frank Wedekind's 1890 play 'Spring's Awakening A Children's Tragedy,' the musical tells the story of a group of teenagers coming of age and sexual awakening amid a repressive German society. More than a century after Wedekind's play was first performed, the themes of SPRING AWAKENING, including that of sexuality, rape, abuse, incest, abortion, homosexuality, and suicide, are as relevant today as ever, which is why NRACT's Director Tim Locklear felt this was an important story to tell. Billed for mature audiences due to content and brief nudity, NRACT's SPRING AWAKENING holds a mirror up to the way in which we communicate with and listen to each other, especially our children, a haunting lesson that will linger long after the final bow.

The musical, A LETTER TO HARVEY MILK, will host Los Vegas shooting survivor, Ashley Hoff on Thursday, May 24 at 7pm. She will be part of a post- show talkback.

Playwright John Cariani is a master at writing about love that's quirky, non-traditional, deeply moving, a little bit sad, and hilariously funny. His first play, Almost, Maine, is now one of the most frequently produced plays in America. In LOVE/SICK he tackles romance in a series of nine vignettes whose common thread is that they take place in the aisles of a mega-mart grocery store. The stories engage all combinations of genders and human conditions.

It is often said that music has the power of bringing people together, and rock duo 18th & Addison is living, breathing proof. Consisting of New Jersey natives Tom Kunzman and Kait DiBenedetto, this punk powerhouse embodies the idea of working for what you love, with who you love.

Australian soul-punk duo Polish Club is excited to announce their debut album Alright Already, due August 10, 2018 via Universal Australia. Will Close and Rose Robinson explore monsters, myths, and Scotland in their exhilarating Great British Mysteries?. Directed by Joseph Hancock and following a sold-out run in Edinburgh back in 2017, the show is presented as a live-action mockumentary. Video projections aid the performers, who are righteously and rather pleasantly exasperating.

There is no doubt that Syracuse University has a fabulous Department of Drama. This time around they are showcasing their talented students in the thrilling and cult classic musical Little Shop of Horrors at Syracuse Stage. With book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and toe-tapping tunes by Alan Menken, the show certainly provides entertainment. Meticulously directed by Brian Cimmet, the students lift character acting to new heights, show off incredible puppetry skills with Audrey II, and belt out those oh so familiar tunes with pure power backed by the onstage five-person band under the direction of Jacob Stebly.

Today, Birds of Chicago release their new full-length album Love in Wartimeon Signature Sounds Recordings. The album features 'Superlover', 'Never Go Back' and 'Roll Away', which NPR can't get enough of. 'We can almost see a full audience on their feet in a live show, singing and dancing along,' says Kim Ruehl (Folk Alley, NPR 'Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing') adding, 'Roll Away' celebrates change, with all its painful revelations and inevitable doubt.'

While the musical itself may not be my personal cup of tea as a whole, some catchy music (performed by a killer all-female band and two endearing actors) and the sweet, throwback story make it worthy of some positive attention.
