Mayor de Blasio, Speaker Mark-Viverito, Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tom Finkelpearl, and City Council Majority Leader and Cultural Affairs Committee Chair Jimmy Van Bramer today announced more than $40 million in grants to support public programming at nearly 950 cultural organizations across all five boroughs, including support for priorities in the City's CreateNYC cultural plan. This represents the largest ever allotment for the Department of Cultural Affairs' Cultural Development Fund (CDF), which distributes funding for cultural programming to hundreds of nonprofit cultural groups every year.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley celebrates the holiday season with a riotous escapade, Around the World in 80 Days. Taking place in an 1870s alive with danger, romance, and comic surprises, fearless adventurer Phileas Fogg and his faithful valet circle the globe in an unheard-of 80 days. In the hilariously theatrical style of The 39 Steps, five actors portray dozens of characters in a thrilling race against time and treachery, recreating one of the greatest adventures of all time. Full of stampeding elephants, raging typhoons, and runaway trains, Around the World in 80 Days, adapted by the award-winning playwright Mark Brown, offers an imaginative and ingenious expedition for the whole family. Directed by TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, Around the World in 80 Days will be presented November 29 December 31, 2017 (press opening: December 2) at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto. Supported by a major grant from the Getty Foundation, events will range from large-scale, site-specific performances to multi-artist evenings and will be presented in parks, plazas, galleries, theaters, and busy urban settings.

Croatia's acclaimed Perforations Festival returns to New York November 17 to 26 with a diverse slate of genre-blurring performances by artists from Central and Eastern Europe. The 2017 festival will feature seven productions over ten days including U.S. premieres by Bruno Isakovic? and Mia Zalukar, Via Negativa, Ina Sladic, Magda Stawman-Tuka and Anita Wach, Jasna L. Vinovr ki, and Marta Zi ?ek. The Great Jones Repertory Company's 2015 work Pylade, directed by Ivica Buljan, will also be presented. Perforations is curated by Zvonimir Dobrovic? and presented by La MaMa with an opening performance at Abrons Arts Center.
