As a new year begins, Connecticut's professional theater scene offers many exciting viewing opportunities including premieres of new shows as well as some old some old favorites. What shows am I most looking forward to? Here are some tops picks for 2016:

The Off Broadway League is recognizing the needs of the less fortunate this holiday season -- particularly under privileged children -- by launching an OFF BROADWAY TOY DRIVE, December 12th - December 22nd, benefiting Safe Horizon, the largest non-profit victim services agency in the United States, touching the lives of more than 250,000 children, adults and families affected by crime and abuse throughout New York City each year. In exchange for one new donated toy, participating theaters will give away one ticket to one of their productions between now and December 22.

STOMP, the international percussion sensation, returns to Memphis at the Orpheum Theatre for two performances on Saturday, February 20th, 2016.  From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into an international sensation over the past 20 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people.

Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, SCHOOL OF ROCK: THE MUSICAL, with music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes and direction by Laurence Connor, makes its world premiere on Broadway tonight, December 6, at the Winter Garden Theatre.
