 The Music Center announced it will present two star-studded concerts, JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on November 6 and November 7, 2018, featuring an incredible array of singers and musicians who will honor one of the world's most remarkable artists, Joni Mitchell, on her 75th birthday.  On both nights, Glen Hansard, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Kris Kristofferson, Los Lobos, Graham Nash, Seal, and Rufus Wainwright, will perform songs from all stages of Mitchell's life and career, across the entire oeuvre of her 19 studio albums.  Co-musical directors, providing the musical arrangements for the evenings, are drummer Brian Blade, who recorded three studio albums and toured extensively with Mitchell, and, pianist, composer, arranger producer Jon Cowherd. 

The month kicks off with local songstress Melveen Leed and the return of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet presenting a Tribute to Bird & Dizzy: The Birth of Bebop. Good music runs in the Artis family, so don't miss PraiseJesus Artis in her Blue Note debut. Jazz talent Abe Lagrimas Jr. is up next, followed by the Na Hoku “Female Vocalist of the Year” Kimié Miner. Paula Fuga returns with a tribute to Aretha Franklin and soul-singer DeAndre Brackensick is back with Shawn Pimental. We welcome Willie K back to the stage following a successful mainland tour and present the Blue Note debut of Kamuela Kahoano. The youngest of the family, Rodney Cazimero joins us later in the month followed by local giants Kumuhau,Brother Noland & John Cruz and Kuana Torres Kahele presenting 'Kakuhihewa, his tribute to O'ahu.

In April 2018, the New World Symphony joined The Sphinx Organization and the League of American Orchestras in announcing their new partnership, the National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS), which is a field-wide initiative with the long-term goal of increasing diversity in American orchestras. Supported by a four-year, $1.8 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Alliance offers a holistic and personalized array of support to Black and Latinx musicians to develop their audition skills, increase their participation in auditions, and ultimately, increase their representation in orchestras.

FX has renewed the groundbreaking dance musical series Pose, it was announced today by John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions. The second season of Pose will debut in 2019 on FX.

This week at Starlight Theatre; 'Dirty Dancing.'  If you are a die-hard fan of the 1987 film "Dirty Dancing," the live-on-stage version of the film might be the "Time of Your Life."   For others, not so much.

Noted author Ken Bloom joins Kevin to discuss the book. With his trademark hunched shoulders, turned-in stance, and stuttering staccato jazz movement, Fosse was the groundbreaker in the development of choreography for the Broadway musical. The book is a fascinating look at the evolution of the man as a choreographer and director.

Top freestyle, pop and dance artists of the '80s and '90s will bring their greatest hits to Freestyle Old School Jam at the Orleans Arena on Saturday, April 28. Featured artists include Stevie B., Lisa Lisa, Expose, Taylor Dayne, Debbie Deb, Trinere, Newcleus, 69 Boyz, Tag Team, and Tawatha of MTume.

Bang on a Can announces its 2018 Bang on a Can Marathon, presented for the first time at the NYU Skirball on Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 12-10pm. This incomparable super-mix of boundary-busting music from around the corner and around the world features ten hours of rare performances by some of the most innovative musicians of our time, side-by-side with some of today's most pioneering young artists. This year, the Bang on a Can Marathon will be streamed via Facebook Live on Bang on a Can's Facebook page and at bangonacan.org. Queer|Art, NYC's home to creative and professional development for LGBTQ artists, is pleased to announce "BLACK SUMMER NIGHTS 2: SUMMER IN THE CITY," a special season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd St.), May 14-August 20.

Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC)made its spring announcement of 18 new shows added to the 2018-2019 season, continuing to showcase chart topping musicians, compelling dance companies, groundbreaking storytellers and authors and a wide range of holiday performances, all appealing to diverse audiences. Tickets for all shows go on sale first to LBC members on Monday, April 9 at 12 p.m. and then to the general public on Friday, April 20 at 12 p.m.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance, whose bold and dramatic works connect life and movement, is premiering Snap Crackle Pop in collaboration with Pilobolus during its yearly performance and gala benefit on April 14, 2018 at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). Co-commissioned by NJPAC, Snap, Crackle, Pop is being co-choreographed by Carolyn Dorfman, Renée Jaworski Co-Artistic Director of Pilobolus and former Dorfman company dancer, and the dancers of CDD.

Shakespeare Theatre Company today announces the cast of Lerner and Loewe's multiple Tony Award-winning musical Camelot. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul (Kiss Me, Kate; Man of La Mancha), the classic musical will play at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from May 22 through July 1, concluding STC's 2017-2018 mainstage season.
