Segerstrom Center for the Arts launches its 2018-2019 Chamber Series with the acclaimed Escher String Quartet on November 1, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Samueli Theater. Since its founding in 2005, the quartet has quickly garnered the reputation as one of the finest young string ensembles performing today. Their instrumental interplay, which combines technical precision with warmth and vitality, has reaped accolades nationally and abroad, and elicited invitations from Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman to be the quartet-in-residence at their respective summer festivals. In a review, The Strad wrote, "…a level of individual technical precision and a collective musical purpose that is endlessly compelling … Sheer brilliance." Quartet members include Adam Barnett-Hart and Danbi Um, violins; Pierre Lapointe, viola; and Brook Speltz, cello.

The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum is pleased to present the NJ Young Filmmakers Festival on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30PM.

The Houston Symphony is joined by members of the Dawson High School Choir at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 for the 2018-19 Family Series opener Peter and The Wolf, a family-friendly program for all-ages.

After an absence of five years and under the auspices of the Cherry Orchard Festival, Israel's acclaimed Gesher Theatre returns to New York in early October with its two leading productions The Dybbuk and In the Tunnel. On Today, October 2, just prior to the performances, Gesher Artistic Director Yevgeny Arye and company members invite the public to join them for a free screening on the making of Dibukim, a 60-minute film by Ram Loevy, winner of the honorable mention at the Haifa International Film Festival, which documents the production process of The Dybbuk and follows the creative team and actors during rehearsals. The screening will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session with Yevgeny Arye and members of the company. This film is in Hebrew with English subtitles. More info & trailer.

Artistic and Executive Director of Exeter Northcott Theatre Daniel Buckroyd today announces the full cast for a major new revival of Schiller's Don Carlos presented in a co-production with Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) and Rose Theatre Kingston. Gadi Roll directs Tom Burke (Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa), Alexandra Dowling (Eboli), Darrell D'Silva (Philip), Kelly Gough (Elizabeth), Jason Morell (Domingo), Vinta Morgan (Alba), Samuel Valentine (Don Carlos), Stephen Ventura (Lerma) Flip Webster (Duchess), with Alexander Allin, Dan Ball, Guy Dennys and Euan Shanahan completing the company's ensemble.

By deconstructing and re-examining iconic works by choreographers Vaslav Nijinsky, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham, Bob Fosse, and George Balanchine, Yerushalmy dismantles the modern tradition with both reverence and intensity. Performed by a diverse cast of dancers alongside contributions by scholars and writers, Paramodernities assembles some of today's best and brightest minds to bridge the sometimes disparate worlds of dance and academia.

Maria Shclover and Irina Shabshis, Cherry Orchard Festival co-founders and producers, today announced Israel's celebrated Gesher Theatre will return to New York City in early October with its two leading productions The Dybbuk and In the Tunnel at The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59 Street).  Founded in 1991 in Tel Aviv by director Yevgeny Arye, these Gesher Theatre productions are being presented as part of a North American tour, which includes performances in Toronto and Pittsburgh. Performances are October 3 and 4 for The Dybbuk and October 6 and 7 for In the Tunnel.

After a successful run in Central Park, playing to over 4,000 people, performances resume on Wednesday, June 27 in Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City for New York Classical Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by the company's Founding Artistic Director Stephen Burdman. The production will play this week through June 30, before continuing on to The Battery, Carl Schurz Park, and Brooklyn Bridge Park for performances through July 29. The recently-appointed Chief Conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and the first-ever female winner of the prestigious Donatella Flick conducting competition, Elim Chan makes her Houston Symphony debut Friday, June 22, at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Chan joins the orchestra at 8:30 p.m. to open this year's ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights.

Girls Inc. summer campers will preview the Houston Symphony's upcoming Mendelssohn's "Scottish" concert and meet the guest conductor, Elim Chan, one of the rising women conductors leading major symphonic orchestras around the world during rehearsal on Friday, June 22 at 10 a.m. The campers will meet Chan following rehearsal at 12:30 p.m.

Sejourne's Concerto for Marimba and Strings, marimbist Ji Su Jung won the 43rd annual Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, which earned her a gold medal, a $25,000 prize and a solo performance at Jones Hall with the Houston Symphony at the Donor and Subscriber Appreciation Concert on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Associate Conductor Robert Franz.

The Houston Symphony announced today the four finalists for the Houston Symphony's annual Ima Hogg Competition, one of the world's greatest multi-instrument competitions founded more than four decades ago to honor the memory of Ima Hogg, a co-founder of the Houston Symphony.

Seventeen-year old rising jazz star and music student Matthew Whitaker joined other students who are also blind or visually impaired from Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School to perform in a concert at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday, May 18, at 7pm in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium.

The Houston Symphony has announced the addition of a blockbuster all-Beethoven program to the Bank of American Summer Series at Jones Hall lineup. Tickets are now on sale to the general public at houstonsymphony.org.

New York Classical Theatre (Stephen Burdman, Artistic Director), New York City's only all-free professional Off-Broadway theatre company, is pleased to announce a new production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to celebrate its 19th Anniversary Season. The production, directed by Mr. Burdman, is the company's first staging of Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers, and will be presented in five New York City parks - Central Park, Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City, The Battery, Carl Schurz Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park - with performances from June 5 through July 29 at 7:00 PM. There is no ticketing, and all performances are free and open to the public. New York Classical Theatre also invites audiences to experience unique behind-the-scenes access to open rehearsals on selected dates for each of the five park stagings.
