With Labor Day in the rearview mirror, students all across the county are now diligently back to work on yet another school year. While students and teachers alike are back in their routines of homework and extracurriculars, BroadwayWorld's Jeff Walker and Matt Tamanini are focusing their monthly feature on the showtunes that celebrate the highs and lows of school and learning.

The Casting Society of America (CSA) has revealed its first-round nominees for the 31st Annual Artios Awards across the theater, television, web series and short film categories. This year, the Television Animation category has been divided into two categories: Television Animation-Adult and Television Animation-Children. All winners will be announced at the 31st Annual Artios Awards at the height of awards season on Thursday, January 21, 2016.

Among them, the company can claim 18 Tony Awards, 4 Pulitzer Prizes, 6 Pulitzer finalist distinctions, 3 Emmy Awards, and 2 Academy Awards; to list all their honors would take several pages.

Directed by Jose Possi Neto and text by Miguel Falabella, this production celebrates the professional career of the star in theater and television.

Tony Maudsley (ITV1's Benidorm) will play Edna Turnblad in the major 40-week UK tour of Hairspray which will open at Curve theatre in Leicester this autumn. He will be joined by TV and stage actress and presenter Claire Sweeney (Educating Rita, Guys and Dolls) as Velma Von Tussle, Olivier Award nominated actor and much-loved Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan (BBC1 Tumble) as Wilbur Turnblad and British singer and West End performer Brenda Edwards (Chicago, We Will Rock You, The X Factor) as Motormouth Maybelle. Freya Sutton will reprise the role of Tracy Turnblad alongside established musical theatre performer Jon Tsouras (A Chorus Line) who will play the role of Corny Collins. Charming family patriarch Sam Baker lies in a hospital bed, recovering from an apparent heart attack, but his wife, Marsha, won't stop making the crisis all about her -- much to the dismay of their son, Aaron. The young photographer wonders why his parents even stay together while he and his husband, Malcolm, deal with their own issues as newlyweds. Intimate, yet universal, Family Shots is a wildly funny and touching comedy about marriage -- its joys, challenges and responsibilities -- and what's worth fighting for. The production runs tonight, January 22 - February 8, 2015.

With almost 30 years of experience, she has seen it all and more. But she has never backed down and never refused to stop growing as a performer.
