Mercury Theater Chicago, 3745 N Southport Ave., will celebrate Stephen Sondheim's birthday at The Hypocrites' production INTO THE WOODS with a weeklong celebration beginning on Sunday, March 16 with a panel discussion following the 3 p.m. performance with Andra Velis Simon from Columbia College Chicago and Director Geoff Button, and a second panel discussion on Saturday, March 22 following the 2 p.m. performance with Kris Vire, Associate Editor at Time Out Chicago and Executive Director L. Walter Stearns. Kicking off from today 14 January is an adaptation of Abe Kobo's 1962 Japanese novel WOMAN IN THE DUNES, followed by the previously announced world premiere of A WORLD ELSEWHERE by Times journalist Alan Franks - a thrilling play where Oxford University, Richard Nixon and the Vietnam War all collide. Full casting for A WORLD ELSEWHERE includes Michael Swatton (Maid of Bankside, Jermyn Street Theatre) as headstrong student Elliott, and Crispian Cartwright (Judgement at Nuremberg) and Oxford professor Mayhew.

According to the Stage, Bill Kenwright Limited is looking into transferring ten shows to the West End in 2014, including the UK tour of Fame and the Regent's Park Open Air production of The Sound of Music. Other musicals in the running include the Marti Pellow and Madalena Alberto-led touring production of Evita, and Cabaret, starring Will Young.
