While dazzling Key West audiences with her portrayal of Mrs. Muller in'Doubt' last season, Lela fell in love with Key West, and Key West took her into their collective hearts. After hearing of Lela's triumphant appearance at Gable Stage in 'No Child...,' Danny Weathers, artistic director for the Waterfront, scheduled the play for the '09/10 season and is thrilled to have Lela return in this amazing performance. A member of Actors Equity, Lela has won South Florida's prestigious Carbonell Award, and has appeared in such productions as 'In the Continuum,' 'Just A Kiss,' 'Intimate Apparel,' Seven Guitars,' 'Radio Golf' and the recent 'Naked Women Fully Clothed.'

Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who is set to appear in August Wilson's FENCES this spring, expressed some lingering regret in turning down the Brad Pitt role in the 1995 thriller SEVEN. Washington told Entertainment Weekly, 'The only film that was sort of dark that I'd turned down was SEVEN. They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, 'This is so dark & evil.' Then when I saw the movie, I was like, 'Oh Shoot.'

Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington will star in the first Broadway revival of FENCES, the 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by August Wilson. The production will also star Tony Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Viola Davis. FENCES, directed by Kenny Leon, will open on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). The strictly limited 14 week engagement will begin previews on April 14.

Not Black and White is a three month season of plays to be presented by the Tricycle Theatre examining life and social issues in 21st Century London from the perspective of three leading black contemporary playwrights. Roy Williams, Kwame Kwei-Armah and Bola Agbaje will tackle the prison system, the mayoralty and immigration respectively in the Not Black and White season which runs from 8 October to 19 December 2009.
