Inspired by teaching songwriting in two southern California area women's prisons, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Eleni Mandell will release Wake Up Again June 7, on Yep Roc Records. 

Elizabeth Goodwill, education director of Art Center Sarasota, recently announced that renowned watercolor portrait artist, author, and educator Mary Whyte will discuss her life's work and her artistic journey, Sunday, February 17, 1-3 p.m., at Art Center Sarasota. This event will include a Q&A session and book sale and signing. Tickets are $30 for members; $35 for non-members. Wine and light bites will be served. Sundance Institute will gather 20 celebrated and revered expert voices across film, art, culture and science to award feature-length and short films shown at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival with 12 prizes, announced at a ceremony February 2 that will be livestreamed at sundance.org and on YouTube. Short Film Awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 29 and will also be livestreamed. The Festival takes place January 24 through February 3 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance, Utah.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage, Santa Monica, and Sotheby's Institute of Art, Los Angeles, a partnership with Claremont Graduate University are delighted to welcome acclaimed, international artists Nadya Tolokonnikova, Founding member of Pussy Riot, Shepard Fairey, Catherine Opie and Tavares Strachan to the stage for "Artists, Activism, Agency", the third program in the ARTISTS TALK series celebrating Los Angeles's vibrant contemporary art scene. In its ongoing efforts to recognize, support and raise awareness about the huge impact of cinema beyond the screen, the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has partnered with Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to present the inaugural AAFCA Day at City Hall on April 27 celebrating and honoring productions that put a spotlight on Los Angeles life highlighting its residents and locations through complex and elevated depictions. With that mission at the forefront, the inaugural AAFCA Day at City Hall will celebrate “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.,” the groundbreaking USA limited series exploring the decade-plus investigation into the real-life homicides of the iconic rappers, as its first honoree. The “Unsolved” collaborators and key cast will gather before a fully assembled City Council on April 27 for a formal proclamation and reception as they are saluted as the very first honorees of AAFCA Day at City Hall. Harris-Dawson and AAFCA co-founder and president Gil Robertson, who jointly spearheaded this effort, will be on hand, along with other special guests.

The Kitchen presents a multimedia project from Charles Atlas, continuing the institution's nearly 45-year relationship with the video art pioneer. In The Kitchen's gallery, two new video installations take a retrospective look at Atlas' work while offering a counterpoint to his interactive 2003 show Instant Fame! and its portraits of downtown figures (through May 12).

2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, also known as the Nakba or 'catastrophe". @70: Celebration of Contemporary Palestinian Culture, taking place at RADA Studios, Chenies Street, London from the 14-20 May, is a week-long festival of theatre, dance, films and talks commemorating the Palestinian experience of dispossession and loss of a homeland.

The Teaneck Camera Club will hold a photography exhibition called "Through Our Eyes" in the Sandy Bennett Gallery in bergenPAC during the month of March. An artist reception will be held Saturday, March 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open to the public.

Modfest, Vassar College's annual exploration of the arts of the 20th and 21st centuries, will consider the concept of Adapting, February 1 11, 2018. Throughout these two weeks, artists will examine different perspectives of what this can mean in our ever-changing world through written and spoken words, visual arts and performance.

The playwright and philosopher Alexander Matthews presents the debut of his two witty social dramas at Covent Garden's Tristan Bates Theatre in spring 2018. 'Screaming Secrets' and 'Glass Roots' will have back-to-back runs and will form the first Alexander Matthews Season in the UK. Both plays are directed by Evan Keele with production design by Nancy Surman.
