The New York Philharmonic will receive the Asia Society's Cultural Ambassador Award at a black-tie dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. The Asia Society's Annual Awards Dinner recognizes extraordinary individuals who have contributed to promoting understanding between Asians and Americans. The Philharmonic is being cited for its bridge-building concerts across the globe, particularly its historic concert in Pyongyang, DPRK, in February 2008, and its debut in Hanoi, Vietnam, in October 2009. At the dinner, two members of the Philharmonic - Assistant Concertmaster Michelle Kim and violist Vivik Kamath - will perform two works, including the well-known Korean folk song, Arirang, which they played with the Orchestra in Pyongyang.

Actors Equity held a celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the Gypsy Robe on Monday night, October 25th at Sequoia on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport where past gypsy robe winners came back to reminisce and to celebrate.

Curated by Jeremy McCarter, a senior writer at Newsweek, Public Forum events are open to the general public. Tickets for the inaugural event can be purchased for $25 beginning Tuesday, October 5. British stage vet Rhydian Roberts has revealed on BBC Radio that SONDHEIM ON SONDEHIM, which concluded its limited engagement on Broadway on June 27, 2010, will be playing the West End beginning in October. While visiting Richard Bacon's program last week to promote the new stage production of WAR OF THE WORLDS in which he will be appearing, Roberts explained: 'I'm due to go into a Sondheim show in the West End in October...SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM. The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.
