Friday June 9 is the next opportunity to take a journey through 94 years of a theater that is on the National Register of Historic Places in Connecticut during the Waterbury Palace Theater's monthly tour from 11a.m. to 12:30p.m. Admission is $5.00 per person and tickets can be purchased online at www.palacetheaterct.org, by phone at 203-346-2000, or in person at the Box Office, 100 East Main St. in Waterbury. The American premiere of The Trial has opened at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. This is a very major event in opera. Franz Kafka's nightmare tale of Joseph K, trapped in an enigmatic trial for his life, has fascinated readers since it appeared in 1925. Composer Philip Glass read the novel as a youth and even then he yearned to write an opera based on it. But Glass kept that idea 'in his pocket' for sixty years. It was not until he received a commission from the Music Theatre Wales, the Royal Opera, Theatre Magdeburg and the Scottish Opera that Glass was able to fulfill that dream. The London premiere of The Trial opened in 2014.

The love affair between Jewish people and the stage dates back to Yiddish theatre in the late 19th century. Its comedy, drama, operetta and satire delighted and informed audiences from Eastern Europe, to Paris, to Buenos Aires and New York City.  

Third Street Music School Settlement will be presenting three students graduating this June as recipients of the New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship.  This year's scholars, Emma Peleg, 17, Hale Sheffield, 17, and Jennifer Loo, 17, will each receive $25,000 over four years towards their college expenses.  Entering college in fall 2017, the scholars have been accepted to schools such as Yale University, Princeton University, Duke University, SUNY Stony Brook, Binghamton University, The New School, New York University, CUNY Hunter, CUNY Baruch, Oberlin College, and Northeastern University.

Third Street Music School Settlement, the nation's longest running community school, has announced that this year's Spring Gala will honor Grammy-Award-winning hip-hop group The Roots, Clarfeld Financial Advisors, and Beverly Harper, Third Street Safety Director of nearly two decades.
