BrightSide Theatre to Present CABARET, 6/13-29

BrightSide Theatre, Naperville's only professional theatre performing in the historic downtown district, wraps up its 3rd season with Kander and Ebb's legendary musical Cabaret. Directed by BrightSide Theatre's Artistic Director Jeffrey Cass and playing June 13-June 29, 2014 at the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall at North Central College, 31 S. Ellsworth Avenue in Naperville. Jewish Museum & Bang on a Can Form New Partnership

The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can are launching a new partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015. Inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions, the five programs will take place throughout the year across the Museum at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Manhattan. The partnership kicks off with Asphalt Orchestra performing during the Museum Mile Festival on June 10, followed by a July 10 concert featuring works by Minimalist composers such as Philip Glass and Louis Andriessen in conjunction with Other Primary Structures, an exhibition of global sculpture from the 1960s.

The San Pedro Theatre Club presents CABARET, a musical based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The production is directed by Drew Fitzsimmons and Victoria Miller, who also choreographed, with music directed by Leslie Sharp. The intimate 78-seat theater allows the actors to interact with the audience on several occasions, making it really feel as if we are inside the small German cabaret rather than watching a show about it.

Philip Roth Receives Inaugural Yaddo Artist Medal Today

The artist community Yaddo announced today that the inaugural Yaddo Artist Medal will be presented to Pulitzer Prize winning author Philip Roth. Roth is set to receive the Yaddo Artist Medal, designed by internationally-acclaimed artist James Siena, at Yaddo's annual New York City Benefit today, May 14, 2014 at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street). Alison Lurie, also a Pulitzer Prize recipient, former Yaddo resident and author of Foreign Affairs, will introduce Roth at the event.

YASI Masters is a week-long program for high school students looking to deepen their theater practice and dig into intensive and concentrated training with top experts in their fields. Lincoln Center Announces MOSTLY MOZART FESTIVAL 2014, 7/25-8/23

Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, today announced the 48th season of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, which runs from July 25-August 23, 2014. This year's Festival will feature more than 35 events across several venues including concerts, opera, dance, pre-concert recitals and lectures, late-night performances, contemporary music, and premieres of two commissioned works. The Festival kicks off with two free events: the world premiere of a new work by John Luther Adams, performed July 25 and 26 for free on Hearst Plaza, in a joint presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and continuing an annual tradition, the free preview concert by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall on July 26. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree returns for his 12th season to conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which will perform a wide range of works anchored by the Festival's featured namesake. Mostly Mozart will also present world-renowned artists and returning Festival favorites, such as violinist Joshua Bell, Mark Morris Dance Group, Emerson String Quartet and Artists-in-Residence International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as 14 Festival debuts, including pianists Yuja Wang and Steven Osborne, and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
