#RDTgoesGAGA on July 1

By:

Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT), America's premiere modern dance repertory company since 1966, is excited to announce the launch of the upcoming online fundraising campaign for a new commission for the 2014-2015 season.

RDT is commissioning the work of two Israeli artists, Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof, former members of Batsheva Dance Company (Tel Aviv) and celebrated practitioners of the Gaga Movement Language, a style and "language" of dance that has a global following. Zuk is a choreographer and dancer, while Fishof is an composer and musician working in a variety of fields including sound, dance, video, performance and installation. These talented artists will be staying in Salt Lake City for four weeks, creating the new piece titled, "By The Snake." The piece will premiere on RDT's season opener,Portal, October 2-4, 2014 at the Rose Wagner.

#RDTgoesGAGA launches on July 1 on indiegogo.com. The goal of the online fundraising campaign is to raise $7,500 to go toward Zuk & Fishof's artistic fees. Those that donate to the project will be given recognition tied to the piece itself, as well as a slew of options depending on the level given. Rewards for donating start at just $15 and increase up to $2,500. For instance, those that give $2,500 will have the option to choose to have a cameo appearance in an RDT show this season, or have the Company perform at their home or event.

This exciting project continues RDT's tradition of using the art form to nurture artists, preserve dance history and inspire creativity in audiences of all ages. Not only will RDT secure a new work by international artists, but the Salt Lake community of dancers will also have the unprecedented experience of working for two weeks with Zuk and Fishof during the Company's summer workshop, Summerdance.

RDT invites you to join us online this July to see the process of creating a dance. We will be sharing sneak-peeks, videos from rehearsals, and insights from the artists throughout the 45-day campaign. It is truly a "behind-the-scenes" look at how a dance work is created from beginning to end. RDT is looking for the community's help to bring this world-class piece of art to the Salt Lake Valley.
