Old School Square Announces the 2017-18 Season of performances, lectures, exhibits, classes and workshops.

Sharon Playhouse has announced complete casting for its 2017 Season. The season kicks off with MINOR CHARACTER: SIX TRANSLATIONS OF UNCLE VANYA, created by New Saloon (Morgan Green, Madeline Wise, and Milo Cramer), followed by FAR AWAY by Caryl Churchill (Love and Information). The season will conclude with a new, intimate chamber production of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN. In a shift that begins this season, Morgan Green (William Shakespeare's Mom) will direct all three productions, showcasing the talents and range of the rising director.

Artistic Director Robert Falls and Executive Director Roche Schulfer announce that Goodman Theatre will expand its Education programming into elementary schools with a $100,000 grant from Disney to bring the "Disney Musicals in Schools" program to the Chicago area.

For its final production of the 2016-17 season, Fresh Squeezed Opera presents Scopes/Prix Fixe, an operatic double bill, at the IATI Theater in the East Village.

Audiences now have eight more chances to see stage and screen star Stacy Keach in his tour-de-force performance as Chicagoland native son, Ernest Hemingway. Goodman Theatre announces that playwright Jim McGrath's newest work - Pamplona, which begins preview performances tomorrow - has been extended for one week, now closing on Sunday, June 25.

The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company and Dancap Productions present THE JAZZ SINGER, a new musical adaption of Samson Raphaelson's classic story of a son's struggle between his passion for a Broadway career, and his father's plans to have him follow in his footsteps as a cantor. The production will run May 23 - June 18, 2017 at Greenwin Theatre, Toronto Centre for the Arts.

The Society for the Preservation of Theatrical History in association with New Perspectives Theatre Company (NPTC) is pleased to present a limited run engagement of STAGE STRUCK: Reclaiming the History of Women in Theatre written and performed by Paula Ewin*, Ginger Grace*, Mari Lyn Henry, Judy Rosenblatt*, and Sandhi Santini. This summer, experience the agony and ecstasy of first love all over again in Goodman Theatre's major revival of Ah, Wilderness! - the sole comedic work of playwright Eugene O'Neill, the father of American drama. Steve Scott, the Goodman's longtime Producer, directs O'Neill's portrait of family life at the turn of the century - and the bliss, excitement and adventure of first love. 

This summer, Goodman Theatre and the Center for Performance and Civic Practice (CPCP) present four one-day capacity building workshops focused on creative change tactics for members of Chicago's communities. These sessions are part of NOURISH-a multi-year initiative between the Goodman and CPCP to develop a greater capacity for arts-based community-led transformation-led by Walter Director of Education and Engagement Willa J. Taylor (Goodman Theatre) and Michael Rohd (Founding Artist/Director of CPCP/Sojourn Theatre).

Goodman Theatre invites members of the Chicagoland theater community-directors, designers, actors and theater artisans working at local performing arts venues-to a giveaway that includes select prop and set pieces from past Goodman productions. Every item is offered completely free of charge, and all must be taken immediately. Previews are not available prior to the sale. The props giveaway will take place at Goodman Theatre's Scene Shop (363 W. Pershing Road) starting at 9am until 1pm (or while supplies last). In lieu of an admission fee, the Goodman will accept donations in any amount ($10 suggested minimum) for Season of Concern, a service organization of the Chicago theater community. Red Bull Theater today announced the cast for their next Revelation Reading on Monday May 1st (7:30pm) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street): the New York Premiere of Nikolai Erdman's The Mandate in a new version by Declan Donnellan (Cheek-by-Jowl), directed by Ethan McSweeny.

Goodman Theatre has announced its first sensory-friendly performance as part of the 40th anniversary of A Christmas Carol-Chicago's "crown jewel of the holiday season" (Daily Herald), directed by Artistic Associate Henry Wishcamper.

Goodman Theatre joins Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group (CTG) in a new co-commissioning partnership that also involves three other internationally renowned theaters-London's Royal Court Theatre and National Theatre, and New York's Second Stage-in the hopes of generating new plays to appear in multiple cities over the next decade.

It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize administrator Mike Pride that Lynn Nottage's SWEAT has officially won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. 

Evita used United Airlines' tactics when it came to getting what she wanted. She had no problem sending thugs with badges to rough up anyone who disobeyed her. Yet, at the same time, she had immeasurable compassion for the poor. Her marriage to dictator Juan Peron is one of the great romances of the 20th century. Whenever I can see EVITA, whether it be in London, Broadway or thousands of miles across the ocean, I make every effort to pay homage to this fascinating woman.

The University of Washington School of Drama will present Sarah Ruhl's adaptation of Orlando by Virginia Woolf, directed by School of Drama Professor and CIVIC REP Artistic Director L. Zane Jones. The production runs April 28th - May 7th at the historic Glenn Hughes Penthouse Theatre on the University of Washington campus. 

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Sam Lloyd, an actor, statesman, philanthropist, and community leader, died peacefully at his home in Weston, Vermont, on Friday, March 24. He was 91.
