The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company and Dancap Productions to Present THE JAZZ SINGER

By:

The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company and Dancap Productions present THE JAZZ SINGER, a new musical adaption of Samson Raphaelson's classic story of a son's struggle between his passion for a Broadway career, and his father's plans to have him follow in his footsteps as a cantor. The production will run May 23 - June 18, 2017 at Greenwin Theatre, Toronto Centre for the Arts.

Featuring music from the Great American Songbook and newly adapted by Toronto playwright Michael Ross Albert (Tough Jews), the Harold Green Jewish Theatre and Dancap production of THE JAZZ SINGER is presented by Toby & Saul Feldberg & Family.

THE JAZZ SINGER features over 20 classics songs from the Great American Songbook by legendary composers including Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Al Jolson. Songs include "Rainbow Round My Shoulder," "Let Me Sing and I'm Happy," and "Blue Skies."

Directed and choreographed by Tim French, THE JAZZ SINGER stars Canadian actors: Patrick Cook, Kaylee Harwood, Theresa Tova, Victor Young, Aaron Ferguson, Joe Matheson, and Jivaro Smith.

THE JAZZ SINGER begins previews May 23, officially opens May 29 and continues through June 18, 2017 only at the Greenwin Theatre, Toronto Centre for the Arts.

Samson Raphaelson's original 1925 Broadway play, adapted from his short story, "The Day of Atonement" was first produced on Broadway in 1925 and later became the basis for the first ''talkie,'' the trailblazing Warner Brothers-Vitaphone talking film starring Al Jolson. Three subsequent screen versions of "The Jazz Singer" have been produced: a 1952 remake, starring Danny Thomas and Peggy Lee; a 1959 television remake, starring Jerry Lewis; and a 1980 remake starring Neil Diamond, Lucie Arnaz, and Laurence Olivier.

THE JAZZ SINGER features set design by Robin Fisher, lighting by Siobhan Sleath and costumes by Alex Amini. The Musical Director is Mark Camilleri.
