Commissioned by Folger Theatre in association with Before 'Farm to Table': Early Modern Foodways and Cultures, Confection is a rollicking rumination on opulence, inequity, and teeny-tiny desserts. 

The Tavern becomes the "wooden O" as Prince Hal accepts his calling to the throne, becoming King Henry V. After making a claim on the French throne, Henry leads his Englishmen into battle - a battle that looks to end the life of Henry, his men and England. In a rallying cry on St. Crispin's Day, Henry calls on his men to fight for "God, Harry, England, and St. George!" The Battle of Agincourt is decided, as is the hand in marriage of a French Princess to a certain English King. Join us for Shakespeare's most patriotic and inspiring play.

Robert Richmond is the director of Folger Theatre's upcoming production of Nell Gwynn. Richmond has directed a number of productions for Folger Theatre in DC and served as the Associate Artistic Director of the Aquilla Company in New York City. He currently is the Department Chair and Artistic Director of the University of South Carolina Department of Theatre and Dance.

Written by British playwright Jessica Swale (Blue Stockings), Nell Gwynn was commissioned by Shakespeare's Globe where it premiered, followed by a celebrated 2016 run on the West End that earned an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Robert Richmond (Macbeth, Timon of Athens, Henry V at the Folger) will direct the East Coast premiere of the play at Folger Theatre in Washington, D.C.

In others, the stories served as cautionary tales that made audiences think about their own lives through the lens of the troubles portrayed. Yet it was Shakespeare's history plays that aimed to take a pivotal moment in history and not only bring it to life for the audience to witness (and hopefully understand better), but to ground those stories in the present and allow those in attendance (and possibly those in power) to learn from the mistakes of the past. Thus, is the case with HENRY V, the current production being mounted at Hartford Stage.

The cast includes Courtney Moors as Nell, Eugene H. Russell as Charles Hart, Robert Shaw-Smith as King Charles accompanied by a talented ensemble.
