Links Hall to Present CORE OF THE PUDEL at Spring 2013 LinkUp Showcase, 3/23-25
by BWW News Desk - Mar 12, 2013
LinkUp Artist Thom Pasculli combines movement and theater in an evening length production. Core of the PUDEL, by Pasculli, is inspired by the legend of Faust is a journey of soul-searching in its most literal sense. When Faust sells his soul to the devil he believes it to be worthless, but it is the devil who must convince him otherwise. Academics, Christians, and witches alike have all tried and failed to describe the mysteries of the soul... So shall we. Core of the PUDEL runs March 23-25 at Links Hall (3435 N Sheffield Ave).
OEDIPUS REX XX/XY Opens 3/7 at La MaMa
by Kelsey Denette - Mar 6, 2013
What happens when Oedipus is a woman and Jocasta is a man? Driven by the belief that what was traditional in 429 BC is radical today, The Faux-Real Theatre Company searches beyond the Freudian notions of "boy loves mom," and re-examines Oedipus the King with modern eyes and ancient techniques, uncovering the fearful truths and the (occasionally comedic) grotesque ironies that Sophocles presented audiences 2000 years prior to the birth of psychology.
La MaMa & Faux-Real Theatre Co Present OEDIPUS REX XX/XY, Beginning 3/7
by Kelsey Denette - Feb 11, 2013
Driven by the belief that what was traditional in 429 BC is radical today, FRTC performs Oedipus the King exactly as Sophocles intended… sort of. Men play all of the roles (including Love Interest/Mom Jocasta) just as the Greeks would have wanted it; only with Faux-Real, the role of Oedipus is played by a woman. Searching beyond the Freudian notions of "boy loves Mom," Faux-Real re-examines Oedipus with modern eyes (pun intended) and ancient techniques, to shed new light on this classic tale of sex, power, murder and the dark urges lurking inside of us all.
