Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Program Due 6/11

Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) announces that The Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Program deadline for applications has been extended to June 11, 2010. The program was established at the bequest of his family, in honor of Mr. Ryder's life's work, to recognize individual creative expression and to provide financial assistance to choreographers to create new original work.

The 2010-2011 Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre season will include the world premiere of a new musical, 'Leap of Faith,' the 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical 'Next to Normal,' the 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Play 'God of Carnage,' the 25th Anniversary celebration of an international musical classic, 'Les Misérables,' and a brand-new Cirque du Soleil production at the Cirque's new home at the Kodak Theatre, it was announced today by CTG's Artistic Director Michael Ritchie.

The cast of The Fantasticks, the world's longest-running musical, will sing the national anthem at the Saturday, April 10, 2010 Mets game at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. The performance, which is in recognition of the show's 50th anniversary Off Broadway, is part of Jack Lang Day, named in honor of the beloved Hall of Fame sportswriter who covered the Mets for twenty-five years and who died in 2007.

Gala Chair Liza Minnelli, her co-host Harvey Fierstein and some of Broadway's biggest stars will appear at the 18th annual Kennedy Center Spring Gala, Sunday, May 2nd at 8:30 pm in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. The evening will celebrate Roger L. Stevens, founding chairman of the Kennedy Center, founding chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, and executive producer of over 200 Broadway shows. The evening will feature performances from some of his legendary contributions to Broadway. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Tony Award nominee Brian Stokes Mitchell will join the cast of ABC's 'Ugly Betty' for a guest starring role as Vanessa Williams' ex in an upcoming episode, TVGuide.com is reporting. Mitchell will play the role of Don, a simply guy who is the antithesis of Wilhelmina. It is reported that Mitchell's role may be recurring. The episode will air sometime in March.
