Set in the WLC Performing Arts Center's Raabe Theatre, WLC students along with Director Christopher Elst steer Liz Shipe's swashbuckling tale into one very enthralling version of 18th century Irish pirate Anne Bonny's life. BWW Review: ALICE'S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND, Barbican, 28 November 2016
by Alexandra Coghlan - Nov 29, 2016

It couldn't have been better timed. When Gerald Barry started work on his latest project - an operatic take on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - the world was still rotating smoothly on its axis, business as usual. But fast-forward a year to the European premiere and we find ourselves in a topsy-turvy alternative reality, with a celebrity president, a UK soon to be out of Europe, and madness everywhere we turn. Suddenly a trip down a rabbit-hole seems less a fantasy than a mirror for absurdities rather closer to home. But if the absurdity feels familiar, the mood is quite the reverse, because Barry's opera is utterly, bewitchingly joyful - 50 minutes of batter-you-round-the-head-with-a-bunch-of-flowers brilliance. 5th Wall Theater Company presents RUSTBELT: 1984
by BWW News Desk - May 8, 2017

In theatre, we often see the physical world thrown out of balance. RUSTBELT:1984, written by Damon Arrington and being presented as a staged reading by Fifth Wall Theatre at the historical Hofheimer Building, is no exception. RUSTBELT: 1984 is the first installation in a series of three plays using the visceral world of the theatre to shake up social consciousness regarding water quality and policy.  This is not a dry night of statistics, but rather a satirical tale told through theatre, multi-media, music, and dance with the intent to encourage conversation.  (more...)
