Peak Performances continues a season of iconoclastic works with the U.S. premiere of Romeo Castellucci's Democracy in America, freely inspired by the writing of Alexis de Tocqueville (May 9-12). In a moment where the words "democracy in America" themselves read as a question, the firebrand director looks back on Tocqueville's canonized impressions of America's sociopolitical structure, and the potential, vulnerabilities, flaws, and dangers embedded in its roots.

Seminal punk band Flipper are celebrating 40 years of being a band this year with a North American tour to be followed by dates in the UK and Europe. The shows kick off on April 12 in Los Angeles at the Regent Theater. Further, Flipper will support Killing Joke for their Punk Rock Bowling Festival show on May 24 at Las Vegas' DLVEC 3rd St. Stage. All dates are listed below. 

The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today unveiled its feature film lineup. Continuing its tradition of elevating exceptional storytelling rooted in today's global film communities, the 18th annual Festival will showcase debut works from emerging talent and new works from notable filmmakers. The program includes discoveries, comedies, music-centered, political and social films. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.  

The Revolutionists is a comedic play about four women who lived boldly in France during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe De Gouge, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, loose their heads and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793's Paris. What began as a hopeful revolution for the people of France and her colonies to address social and economic inequality is now sinking into hyper-violent extremist insanity. Gingold Theatrical Group announces the 14th Season of Project Shaw, a special series of evenings of plays that embrace human rights and free speech. All of GTG's programming, inspired by the works of George Bernard Shaw, are designed to provoke peaceful discussion and activism. This series is presented monthly at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre (2537 Broadway at 95th Street).

Ring in the holidays with the Texas-sized holiday comedy!

I cannot even think of enough accolades to share about the current production being staged by Greenway Arts Alliance (Whitney Weston and Pierson Blaetz, Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors) at the Greenway Court Theatre (544 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles) through December 9. The totally entertaining and artistically brilliant production, directed and choreographed by NAACP Theater Award-winner Jeffrey Polk, pulled me in from the moment it started until the end, given the amazingly talented cast who bring the characters so realistically to life that you can actually feel all the emotions each is going through from moment to moment. You will laugh, be fearful, cry and celebrate with all of them by the time the show ends.

We live in an age where our leaders convince people that made-up things are really true. That's what witches do.  So the Witches are the preoccupation of First Maria Ensemble's upcoming production of 'Macbeth,' directed by Celeste Moratti, to be presented December 6 to 21 at Teatro Circulo, 64 East 4th Street.  The company made an auspicious debut in 2016 with 'Hamlet,' which Theater Pizazz (JK Clarke) called one of the season's best small-company productions of Shakespeare plays and Front Row Center (Holli Harms) added, 'Here is hoping that Celeste Moratti continues on this trajectory of directorial discoveries.' 

Northern Ballet's take on the Three Musketeers is beautiful to watch, with a fantastic score and some delightful fight scenes.

The performance, conducted by ACO Music Director George Manahan, will feature the world premiere of Valerie Coleman's Phenomenal Women performed by the Imani Winds with ACO; as well as the world premiere of Alex Temple's Three Principles of Noir with singer Meaghan Burke, director Amber Treadway, and costumes by Storm Garner. Grammy and Grawemeyer Award-winning composer Joan Tower's Chamber Dance from 2006, which treats the orchestra as a chamber ensemble, completes the program.

The Hunter Theater Project at Hunter College (President, Jennifer J. Raab) announced a two-week extension today for the critically acclaimed New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA, directed by Richard Nelson, at the Frederick Loewe Theater (E. 68th Street between Lexington and Park Ave). Translated by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky, and directed by Nelson, UNCLE VANYA began performances on Friday, September 7 and was originally scheduled to run through October 14.

Producing Artistic Director Carolyn Griffin is pleased to announce that the musical ROOMS a rock romance with book by Paul Scott Goodman and Miriam Gordon, music and lyrics by Paul Scott Goodman, and directed by MetroStage Artistic Associate Thomas W. Jones II will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a new production at MetroStage, running Oct 11-Nov 11.

Today, award-winning Mississippi bluesman Cedric Burnside releases his album Benton County Relic. Burnside is the grandson of legendary blues musician R.L. Burnside and still lives close to the Holly Springs, Mississippi home where he was raised by R.L. His first show with his grandfather (affectionally known as 'Big Daddy') was at ten years old at a juke joint. He now carries the torch of bringing Hill Country Blues to the modern day.

Star of stage and screen Denise Van Outen will join the West End cast of CHICAGO at the Phoenix Theatre, playing the role of Velma Kelly from Monday 24 September through to Saturday 17 November 2018. Denise will join Alexandra Burke as Roxie Hart, Duncan James as Billy Flynn, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart.

Renowned bluesman Cedric Burnside grandson of legendary R.L. Burnside is gearing up for the release of BENTON COUNTY RELIC, out September 14 on Single Lock Records.  The first single is the gritty track 'We Made It' a matter-of-fact recitation of his poverty-stricken childhood without running water, radio or TV ("I come from nothin'/I done been lower than low/I keep my head straight/No matter how low I go"). 

 Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab announced today the inaugural production of the Hunter Theater Project, the New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA at the Frederick Loewe Theater at Hunter College (E. 68th Street and Lexington Avenue), directed by Richard Nelson. Translated byRichard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky. This production is the first time renowned Russian literature translators Pevear and Volokhonsky will have a work premiere in New York City, following the show's world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego, California. Previews for UNCLE VANYA begin Friday, September 7. The production runs through Sunday, October 14, with an official press opening on Sunday, September 16. Tickets are on sale now.
