The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, begins its 24th season with a nod to the Jazz Age of the 1920s. The program's first half spotlights the preternatural theremin (invented in the 1920s) with the instrument's first concerto, written by Joseph Schillinger, juxtaposed with the world premiere of Dalit Warshaw's Sirens: A Concerto for Theremin and Orchestra, both performed by world renowned thereminist Carolina Eyck. The concert continues with three works representing the Roaring Twenties and its fascination with American pop culture: John Alden Carpenter's Krazy Kat and Skyscrapers, and Kurt Weill's Little Threepenny Music.

The highly anticipated collaboration between The Australian Ballet and the Houston Ballet will see a brand-new production of Sylvia make its debut to Australian audiences at Arts Centre Melbourne from 31 August to 10 September, and at Sydney Opera House from 8 to 23 November 2019.

Instead, David S. Kessler has written his fantasy which cannot help but distort the significance of the women's lives and careers.

City Lit's 40th Season to explore key moments in American history through fact, fiction and fantasy. Productions will include the Chicago premiere of Peter Parnell's ROMANCE LANGUAGE, a revival of Kristine Thatcher's VOICE OF GOOD HOPE, and world premiere adaptations of Robert F. The National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH) is pleased to announce its next special exhibition Sara Berman's Closet: a small and monumental story by Maira Kalman and Alex Kalman. An installation of one immigrant woman's belongings as re-created by Sara's daughter and grandson - the acclaimed artist and writer Maira Kalman and designer and curator Alex Kalman - the project will feature the Museum's first-ever public art installation on its Kimmel Plaza, on the corner of 5th and Market Streets. An accompanying art exhibition will continue in the Museum's special exhibition gallery, featuring new paintings by Maira Kalman and new sculptures by Alex Kalman and will include interventions throughout the core exhibition, as well as in-person appearances by the Kalmans throughout the run. Sara Berman's Closet will be on view April 5 through September 2, 2019.

The Texas Whiskey Festival today announced the first 15 distilleries participating at this year's event, taking place April 19th at the Star Hill Ranch near Bee Cave Texas. With more distilleries to be announced in the weeks ahead, the event offers a casual and informative evening for whiskey enthusiasts to meet Texas' master blenders and distillers, while enjoying food, cigar pairings and entertainment led by singer, songwriter and storyteller Radney Foster - all designed to complement the craft whiskey brands showcased at the event.

In a concert inspired by adventure and Spanish exoticism, the Columbus Symphony will perform the Spanish Flamenco Festival at the newly renovated Palace Theatre on March 1 and 2. The auditorium of the 1926 historic venue received a six-month, $2.5 million facelift, and was reopened to the public in November 2018. Guest conducted by John Axelrod, musical director of the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra, the program will feature local flamenco star Griset Damas and the Flamenco Company of Columbus. The full program includes Turina's Danzas fantasticas, Falla's La Vida Breve: Danse Espagnole No. 1, and concludes with the enchanting, rhythmic vitality of Dvo?ak's richly melodic New World Symphony (Symphony No. 9).

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) explores the sound of the pipa alongside familiar European repertoire with works of Mozart and Dvo?ak. These works for strings by master composers are followed by a traditional Chinese tune arranged by COP's own Dirk Brosse. The Pipa is showcased alongside the Chamber Orchestra's sound in Lou Harrison's Concerto for Pipa with String Orchestra. Wu Man will also first introduce us to the instrument by playing a solo piece for the Pipa in the intimate setting of the Perelman Theater.

On Her Shoulders is pleased to present staged readings of three plays by Irish dramatist Teresa Deevy, directed by Kristin Heckler on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. The York Symphony Orchestra will present Musical Heroes on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York. This Classical Series Concert features a global celebration of the life and career of Leonard Bernstein, an American composer, conductor, author, music lecturer and pianist. Bernstein, who conducted some the great orchestras of the world for more than four decades, was one of the first conductors born and raised in the U.S. to achieve worldwide recognition. One of his most widely-known compositions included the score for the musical "West Side Story."
