Latin History for Morons

$30 - $150

Emmy and Obie Award winner John Leguizamo schools his son—and the rest of us—on the buried and forgotten history of Latinos in the Americas in this outrageously funny one-man show about uncovering the truth, and recovering from the past.

Inspired by the near total absence of Latinos in his son’s American history class, Leguizamo embarks on a frenzied search to find a Latin hero for his son’s school project. From a mad recap of the Aztec empire to stories of unknown Latin patriots of the Revolutionary War and beyond, Leguizamo breaks down the 3,000 years between the Mayans and Ricky Ricardo into 90 irreverent and uncensored minutes in his trademark style.

The Public Theater announced today that three final performances have been added to the critically acclaimed New York premiere of Latin History for Morons, created and performed by John Leguizamo. Directed by Tony Taccone, this fiercely funny, satirical one-man show was inspired by Leguizamo's observation that Latinos are essentially invisible in the standard American history curriculum.

It's no secret to theatregoer's that the frenetically paced, multi-character solo plays by Obie-winner John Leguizamo have provided far more insight into Latin-American history and culture than can be found in most American school textbooks.
