The 2019-2020 Broadway season at the Peace Center is the biggest yet, with a record 11 shows, including the 2018 Tony Award winners for Best Musical (The Band's Visit) and Best Revival of a Musical (Once on This Island).

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world premiere of Tazewell Thompson's inspirational a cappella music infused play, Jubilee. Inspired by the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, this uplifting new work chronicles the bold African American ensemble as they travel the world, captivating kings, queens and audiences with hymns and spiritual songs supported by their rich voices. Utopia Theatre Project presents the world premiere of Anne Yumi Kobori's original play, Every Day Alice. Directed by Utopia's Artistic Director, Maryssa Wanlass, Every Day Alice reimagines familiar characters from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan in a modern day setting and explores the themes of growing up, identity and the fine line between imagination and delusion.

But the real improvisation starts when Katzberg's emotionally-distant father dies, paralyzing her psyche and forcing her to confront her California-cool brother and erratic, prodigal sister. Dad in a Box, a darkly comedic, multi-character, semi-autobiographical, multimedia solo play, follows queer theater artist Kim Katzberg as she struggles to gain access to her emotional core, while processing the impending death of her abusive father. The story traces Katzberg's efforts, through wildly inventive pieces in improv class, to prod and shock herself into facing and confronting her father's emotional hold on her. More info HERE.

CONTEMPORANEITY 3.0 is a new presenting series by Anandam Dance theatre in partnership with Toronto Dance Theatre, featuring new works and works-in-progress by artists practicing in Asian, African, Latin American, Arab and Indigenous dance forms. CONTEMPORANEITY 3.0 features dance pieces by NOVA DANCE (Toronto), MIX MIX DANCE COLLECTIVE (Toronto), and PADMINI CHETTUR (India). HERE (Kristin Marting, Artistic Director) continues its 2018 2019 season with the New York premiere of Ashes from Plexus Polaire, who recently presented the New York Times critic's pick production of Chambre Noire at The Public Theater's Under the Radar festival. Under the direction of Yngvild Aspeli, Ashes is inspired by true events as told in the best-selling Norwegian novel Before I Burn by Gaute Heivoll, and features actors, video projection and life-sized puppets.

After his hit production of King Charles III, David Muse returns to Shakespeare Theatre Company to direct Shakespeare's Richard the Third, a mesmerizing chronicle of the megalomaniac's rampage to the throne. The production will play at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from February 5-March 10, 2019.
