Shortly after many children all over Houston had hunted lawns for eggs and other treats that the mythical Easter Bunny delivered this past Sunday, I had a delightful conversation with composer Marty Regan and librettist Kenny Fries for Houston Grand Opera (HGO)'s 50th World Premiere, THE MEMORY STONE. We discussed the new opera, looking into its creation, meaning, and cultural significance. As we talked about THE MEMORY STONE, it became abundantly clear that this particular opera is most deserving of being HGO's magical 50th World Premiere and that it will be one that audiences should not miss.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre, in association with Castillo Theatre, will present Plenty of Time by John Shevin Foster at the Castillo Theatre (543 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.). Performances begin April 4th with Opening Night set for Thursday, April 18th. Performances continue through May 5th only.

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced that author and co-director of the Acquavella Gallery Michael Findlay, composer Elliot Goldenthal, filmmaker Mira Nair and visual artist Fred Wilson will be inducted into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23rd at Espace (635 West 42nd Street). The evening begins at 6:30 with a cocktail reception featuring interactive art by past and current NYFA grantees, followed by dinner and remarks from all the honorees. Tickets start at $500 and tables at $5,000; tickets for the Young Patrons After party, which begins at 9:30, are $250. Tickets and tables at all levels can be purchased at www.nyfa.org.

Sundance Institute announced today 19 members of five juries awarding prizes at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 22 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl, with feature film awards announced at a separate ceremony on January 26.

Following a gala evening that featured performances by Bill Irwin and Cornish students, alumni and faculty, President Nancy J. Uscher is pleased to announce the annual event raised more than $500,000 for the Cornish Scholarship Fund. The total includes $105,000 for the Sherry Raisbeck Endowed Scholarship, an endowment created last year by James Raisbeck in honor of his wife, a Cornish graduate and member of the Board of Trustees. Virginia Anderson, Board Chair, announced a $25,000 gift to the College's endowment in honor of Jane Ewing, former Vice President of Institutional Advancement who retired last spring.

Shawn Colvin, Shelby Lynne, and special guest Steve Earle, have been added to the lineup for the 8th annual Holiday Cheer for FUV concert on Wednesday, December 5th at 8:00 p.m. at the Beacon Theatre. They join the previously announced headliner Lucinda Williams, as well as the emerging band Lake Street Dive, who will perform a short set. The Joyce Theater Foundation announced today that it has successfully rescheduled Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal to return for four performances December 13 - 15, after its original Joyce engagement this season was canceled due to the power and transportation outages caused by Hurricane Sandy. As previously announced, the program will include new works by Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto, former Batsheva resident choreographer Barak Marshall, and celebrated Chinese choreographer Wen Wei Wang. 'Cabaret Emigré' by Sophia Romma, originally scheduled for November 2 to 18, now opens tonight, November 7 and will add performances November 11, 13 and 14 to make up for lost shows due to Hurricane Sandy.
