Carlo Rizzi Returns to the Lyric Opera of Chicago in Verdi's NABUCCO

Carlo Rizzi is ready to enter an exciting period of work in the New Year. The conductor's 2015/16 season continues in January with a return to the Lyric Opera of Chicago for Matthew Ozawa's new production of Verdi's Nabucco. He heads to Milan the following month to begin rehearsals for Teatro alla Scala's eagerly awaited staging of Umberto Giordano's La cena delle beffe, an opera not seen at La Scala for eight decades. Rizzi's rich schedule also includes the world premiere of Iain Bell's In Parenthesis and the double-bill of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, staged to celebrate the 70th birthday of Welsh National Opera (WNO).

The New School's College of Performing Arts is pleased to announce that the acclaimed Mannes Opera Young Artists, led by Artistic Director Joseph Colaneri, will give two fully-staged performances of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore with the Mannes Orchestra. Performances will take place December 11 at 7:30 pm and & December 12 at 1:30 pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59th Street, New York). Admission is $25, $10 for students/seniors, and can be purchased through ticketcentral.com.

Highlighting the season will be the New York City Premiere of a new work by Mark Morris and the Company Premieres of Frederick Ashton's Monotones I and II, George Balanchine's Valse-Fantaisie and AfterEffect by Marcelo Gomes. This summer, On Site Opera(OSO) will present a new production that exemplifies the company's mission to stage operas in non-traditional locations ideally suited to the stories they tell. OSO will offer an immersive site-specific staging of Giovanni Paisiello's The Barber of Seville at the opulent Fabbri Mansion (House of the Redeemer) on New York City's Upper East Side. Conducted by the company's newly appointed Music Director,Geoffrey McDonald and directed by OSO's Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Eric Einhorn, the production will be updated to the early decades of the twentieth century (when the Fabbri Mansion was built) and staged in themansion's outdoor courtyard and library.

?The Mannes Orchestra, the student orchestral ensemble of Mannes College at The New School, and the New York Choral Society will join forces to perform John Adams' On The Transmigration of Souls and Paul Hindemith's When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd, April 8 at Carnegie Hall. David Hayes, who leads both groups, will conduct the performance of these two masterpieces, both of which are inspired by profound historic events and celebrate the strength and resilience of the American spirit. On The Transmigration of Souls will feature the critically acclaimed Young People's Chorus of New York City. When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd will showcase the soloists Abigail Fischer (mezzo-soprano) and Lee Poulis (baritone).
