One of the world's greatest dance companies, American Ballet Theatre (Kevin McKenzie, Artistic Director), will unite with the seven-time GRAMMY® Award-winning musicians of the St. Louis Symphony in February 2018, at the University of Nebraska's Lied Center for Performing Arts. Jude Law returns to the stage this month in the world premiere of OBSESSION, a stage adaptation of Luchino Visconti's 1943 film. It's part of Ivo van Hove's Toneelgroep Amsterdam Barbican residency, which also includes the return of their ROMAN TRAGEDIES and a double bill based on Ingmar Bergman films. As one of Europe's leading choirs, this fine choir has delighted listeners since 1924 with its interpretation of the works of major composers of the renaissance and baroque eras, as well as 20th century choral music for boys' and men's voices. Since 1959, the choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral and as part of its duties performs at state occasions and during royal visits abroad.

Festival Ballet Providence presents the premiere of a multi-media adaptation of one of the best loved stories and most popular children's books ever published. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's charming interplanetary adventure is the newest installment in its wildly popular chatterBOXtheatre series for young audiences. The ballet will continue on the next two weekends, April 2-April 9, 2017 in its Black Box Theatre, 825 Hope Street, Providence, RI. This exciting production has been adapted and choreographed by Boyko Dossev, also a company dancer; it incorporates music from composer Maxime Goulet, narration by local storyteller Valerie Tutson, original stop-motion animation by FBP dancers Ty Parmenter and Jacob Hoover, scenery from WaterFire Providence, Viktor Plotnikov, and others. If the evening was less than memorable due to the thinness of the material, it did offer glimpses into the minds of two creative artists who have tried, and often succeeded, in pushing the boundaries of pure dance into a psychological state.

Since opening the 2016 - 2017 season last September, New York City Opera has reestablished itself as a vital part of New York City's cultural landscape, delivering new productions, New York premieres and sold-out performances. The season opened with a critically acclaimed double bill of Leoncavallo's Pagliacci and Rachmaninoff's Aleko bringing the latter to the New York stage for the first time. In November, City Opera presented the New York premiere of Tobin Stokes' Iraq War opera, Fallujah. Last month City Opera's new production of Leonard Bernstein's Candide, directed by Broadway legend Harold Prince became a highlight of the New York season, with a run that was extended from six to ten sold-out performances.

Today, Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin announced “One Book, One New York,” an exciting citywide initiative that will bring book-loving New Yorkers together to read the same book at the same time. With quintessential New York flair, the program will feature five celebrity advocates – Bebe Neuwirth (Madame Secretary), William H. Macy (Shameless), Giancarlo Esposito (The Get Down), Larry Wilmore (Comedian), and Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) – each urging New Yorkers to vote for their choice. This evening, BuzzFeed and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment will host a book party for the launch of One Book, One New York in celebration of the five finalists and New York City's hometown book publishing industry. A city-wide public awareness campaign on subways, buses and LinkNYC also launches today advising New Yorkers of the program's launch and encouraging them to vote on the final selection. Videos produced in partnership with BuzzFeed featuring testimonials by the One Book celebrity advocates will be posted online and disseminated widely during the voting process.
