Factory Theatre to Stage World Premiere of LITTLE PRETTY AND THE EXCEPTIONAL

By:

Factory welcomes the return of Anusree Roy (Brothel #9) with her newest work, the world premiere of LITTLE PRETTY AND THE EXCEPTIONAL, directed by BrenDan Healy.

Two sisters and their father prepare to open a new sari shop in Toronto's Little India. Simran is gifted, complex and haunted; Jasmeet is a beautiful, seemingly typical teenager; and Dilpreet is a traditional father who also wants fulfilling, modern lives for his daughters. While pursuing their life-long family dream, they must also exorcise the demons of their past together.

LITTLE PRETTY AND THE EXCEPTIONAL is a joyous and deeply moving family drama about mental illness and the power of familial ties in the face of adversity.

LITTLE PRETTY AND THE EXCEPTIONAL stars Shruti Kothari (Hamlet, Love's Labour's Lost/Stratford Festival, James and the Giant Peach/YPT) as Jasmeet; Farah Merani (Trompe-La-Mort, or Goriot in the 21st Century/Summerworks, The Dinner/Toronto Fringe) as Simran; Sugith Varughese (Indian Ink/CanStage, Bhopal/Cahoots) as Dilpreet; and Shelly Antony (Perceptions of Love in the Pursuit of Happiness/Toronto Fringe, Scarberia/YPT) as Jasmeet's boyfriend Iyar.

Dora Award-winning director BrenDan Healy, Artistic Director of Magnetic North Theatre Festival, also served as Artistic Director at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre from 2009-2015. "An expert at fascinating and confronting audiences" (Now Magazine), his vast and varied credits include: The 20th of November, PIG, Arigato, Tokyo, Blasted, The Silicone Diaries/Buddies in Bad Times Theatre; Entertaining Mr. Sloane/Soulpepper; and Breath in Between/Summerworks.

Anusree Roy is a Dora Award-winning artist and Governor General Award-nominated writer, whose work has toured internationally. "Roy's become an indispensable part of the theatre scene, offering up fascinating scripts..." (Now Magazine) such as Sultans of the Street, Brothel #9, The Golden Boy, Noor over Afghan, Phoolan Devi, Roshni, Letters to my Grandma and Pyaasa.
