Jealous of the Birds release a new music video, 'New York Has a Lump in Her Throat,' from the EP Wisdom Teeth. 'Last summer I was lucky enough to explore some infamous NYC hotspots where many of my favorite artists lived, performed and hung out, and we gathered together the footage for the 'New York Has a Lump in Her Throat' music video. Like every big city, New York holds its own unique artistic heritage and it blew my mind to be able to exist even for an afternoon in the same places as those artists. That human chain is ongoing and when I wrote the song, I was conscious of being part of that line of people trying to make good art amid so much chaos.' (more...)

BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES 10th Anniversary Tour Headbangs Classic Eighties Rock At The Hippodrome
by Cybele Pomeroy - Feb 18, 2019

The young, energetic cast of ROCK OF AGES' 10th Anniversary Tour is too young to have even been conceived on any Prom Night before 1993, but they don't seem to mind. The script, such as it is, builds stock scenarios and characters to form a through-line for more than 30 big-hair eighties rock standards that are the backbone and muscle of the ROCK OF AGES experience. The band is top notch, handling all the quirks and signatures of big-hair rock like champions. Enjoy this revisitation of your youth as performed by the greatest '80s cover group you're likely to encounter. (more...)

BWW Review: WEST SIDE STORY Comes Alive in Immersive Production at Theater West End in Sanford, FL
by Aaron Wallace - Feb 17, 2019

At Theater West End, you've entered the world of WEST SIDE STORY before even taking your seat. Getting there requires walking across the blue-collar, gang-ridden streets of 1950s New York in the Upper West Side. There's graffiti on the floor beneath you and the walls all around. T-shirts hang out to dry on clotheslines over your head. There's a basketball goal on the cage-wire fence the band sits behind. You might even be seated next to a fire hydrant or a traffic cone. It takes a moment to remember that this same space was home to Madison County's bridges just a couple months ago... (more...)

BWW Review: THE PRODUCERS at Paramount Theatre
by Emily McClanathan - Feb 16, 2019

Before attending THE PRODUCERS at Paramount Theatre, I had a disturbing dream in which this production cut everything deemed offensive or politically incorrect from the original: tap-dancing Nazis, sex-crazed old ladies, grossly stereotyped portrayals of, well, everyone. 'But what will they have left?' my dream-self protested. Fortunately, my fears were allayed upon seeing Paramount's production; director Jim Corti stages a madcap romp that revels in the irreverent humor of Mel Brooks. (more...)
