TheaterWorks has a long-standing, credible connection to Stephen Sondheim musicals. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is a pure crowd-pleaser chomping on the TheaterWorks stage.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) has added three performances to its highly anticipated upcoming production of Birdy, adapted by Naomi Wallace from the novel by William Wharton, and directed by Steven Maler. The production now runs February 27 through March 17 at the Carling-Sorenson Theater at Babson College in Wellesley.

Artists Series Concerts' 2019 Sarasota Lunch & Listen series continues with the Barynya Russian Balalaika Duo, February 28, at Michael's On East, 1212 South East Ave., Sarasota.

In the second concert of its 51st season, New Amsterdam Singers (NAS) will perform Brahms's popular Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs), along with choral works by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Wolf, and recent pieces by contemporary American composers Carol Barnett and Robert S. Cohen. The concert will take place Friday, March 8, 2019, at 8:00 p.m., at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Broadway at 114th Street.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported earlier this week, the legendary Carol Channing. Channing died at 12:31am on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019, at home in Rancho Mirage, CA of natural causes.

Auréole – flutist Laura Gilbert, violist Mary Hammann, and harpist Stacey Shames – is considered by many the world's pre-eminent flute, viola, and harp ensemble, having commissioned and premiered more works for their instrumentation than any other such trio in the world. Embracing the Wind, a new disc of works written between 1978 and 2000 by Israeli composers Paul Ben-Haim and Lior Navok and Americans Ian Krouse and Robert Paterson, is the group's 15th recording, and its first on the American Modern Recordings label. It is the 20th AMR release.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler announced the cast of the second production of its 2018-19 Season: Birdy, adapted by Naomi Wallace from the novel by William Wharton, and directed by Steven Maler. Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H. Drabinsky in association with Peter LeDonne and Teatro Proscenium Limited Partnership.

The play will be shown from March 21, 2019 until March 24, 2019. 

The Verdi Chorus 35th anniversary season culminates with its Fall 2018 concert Passione! Opera! for two performances only at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica on November 10 and 11 led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum. As the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on the dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus, this program, which marks the end of a landmark year for the company, will feature selections from three Verdi operas - Aida, Don Carlo, and the famed chorus "Va, pensiero," from Nabucco, as well as operatic sequences from Boito's Mefistofele, Saint-Saens' Samson and Delilah, Catalani's La Wally and Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann.

Eowyn Ivey's debut novel The Snow Child is reborn as a magical new musical featuring a score that combines Alaskan string-band traditions and contemporary musical theater. On November 17t, SubCulture will present the show in a concert adaptation featuring KATE BALDWIN, MATT BOGART, FINA STRAZZA, GERARD CANONICO, SALLY MAYES and WILLIAM PARRY.

Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet.
