The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the first show of its 2017-2018 Season, the world premiere musical Benny & Joon, with book by Kirsten Guenther, music by Nolan Gasser, and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein.

The hilarious musical spoof Gutenberg! The Musical! is coming to Seattle. Local theatre favorites Kate Jaeger and Matt Giles star as two aspiring playwrights performing a staged reading of their new passion project for potential producers: a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. Gutenberg! This just in! Carmen Pavlovic, CEO of Global Creatures, has announced that Baz Luhrmann's revolutionary film Moulin Rouge! will come to the theatrical stage as a new musical with a book by John Logan, directed by Alex Timbers.

Evening Star Productions will leap even farther back into history, jumping from William Shakespeare (their recent production of A Midsummer Night's Dream played to appreciative audiences for three weeks in August) to Johannes Gutenberg when they produce Anthony King and Scott Brown's Gutenberg!  The Musical! which will open on September 15th, and run through October 2nd at Boca Raton's Sol Theatre.

Although Evening Star Productions and Sol Children Theatre are just a bit more than midway through their third and fourteenth seasons, both companies - under the direction of founder and Artistic Director Rosalie Grant are deep into preparation for next years' productions.

La Jolla Playhouse announces five shows for its 2015/2016 season, featuring all new works, including the world-premiere musical Come from Away, featuring book, music and lyrics by acclaimed Canadian husband-and-wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley; the world premiere of Indecent, co-created by director Rebecca Taichman (Playhouse's Sleeping Beauty Wakes, Milk Like Sugar), and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive), co-produced with Yale Repertory Theatre; and Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin, by Michael Benjamin Washington (Memphis, The Wiz), directed by The Cosby Show's Phylicia Rashad, which had its first workshop during the Playhouse's 2014 DNA New Work Series.

Broadway stars might boast the biggest fan-bases, but without their directors, the vehicle driving their talents could easily swerve off the tracks. Sweet Charity - the first production at Hayes Theatre Co - starts this week, with limited tickets available for the season's performances. The Hayes Theatre came to life this morning as the cast and crew of Sweet Charity arrived for their first official day of rehearsals in the venue. The cast knocked everyone's socks off with their first read-through and sing-through of the iconic score.

The Public Theater presents the critically acclaimed world premiere musical Here Lies Love, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrneand Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, Here Lies Love officially opened on Tuesday, April 23 and was extended a fourth and final time to today, July 28.
