Arizona Theatre Company (ATC; David Ivers, Artistic Director; Billy Russo, Managing Director) is pleased to welcome back four-time Academy Award-nominee Marsha Mason, who will direct Neil Simon's autobiographical romantic comedy Chapter Two to open ATC's 51st season, Sept. 9-30 at the Temple of Music & Art, 333 S. Scott Ave. in Tucson, Oct. 5-22 at the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe in Phoenix.

SRO Theatre Company's 2017-2018 season, it's 33rd,  opens with The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan's hilarious, hopeful farce that follows young Frederic, an orphan who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an ineffectual but raucous band of pirates.

The good times continue this month at Blue Note Hawaii with an eclectic lineup of local talent, national artists and side-splitting comedians. The Henry Kapono Artist to Artist Series continues with Malani Bilyeu of Kalapana, promising chicken-skin moments for all in attendance. Mike Lewis & Friends will share tributes to B.B. King, Etta James and contemporary soul singer Sade. Island Rhythm 98.5FM co-presents an unplugged pop-up show with Anuhea & Friends, followed by local greats Patrick Landeza & Kawika Kahiapo, a show with Duncan Kamakana & the Osorio 'Ohana, the Keauhou Band and of course the incomparable Willie K. The Blue Note Hawaii Comedy Series continues this month with Ahmed Ahmed and Rita Rudner, presented by Hawaii's Natural High. Donavon Frankenreiter is back by popular demand and new to the Blue Note are GRAMMY nominated jazz artists The Rippingtons. There won't be a dry eye in the house when an all-star lineup of local artists pay tribute to legendary jazz crooner Jimmy Borges.

Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound today announced the composers and directors selected for the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs, which return to the legendary Skywalker Sound Facilities for the fifth year.

City Lit Theatre Artistic Director Terry McCabe has announced the cast for the company's season finale, the British comedy London Assurance. First produced in London in 1841 at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, and shortly thereafter in New York City, London Assurance is considered a transitional play between the 18th century comedies of Richard Brinsley Sheridan and Oliver Goldsmith and the late 19th Century plays of Oscar Wilde. It has been one of Great Britain's most popular comedies of the standard classical repertoire and in recent decades has been performed by some of Britain's leading actors. 

Armitage Gone! Dance, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Elisa Monte Dance, and Jennifer Muller/The Works join forces to present a series of five Shared Program Performances featuring 6  Pieces –  3 Premieres – and 35 Dancers.

Bradley Smoak, 32 of Cary, NC, won First Prize in the 2017 Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music. Smoak took home $20,000, the largest single prize amount given in the competition's nineteen year history.

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Mike Isaacson will be presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for 'outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing' at a reception at Sardi's on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) and Jazz Foundation of America will co-present Stanley Jordan on Today, March 9, 2017 at 8pm at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater. Among the most gifted guitarists of his generation, Jordan is master of the two-handed tapping technique, using the neck of the guitar like a keyboard rather than strumming or picking. Applying this astonishing technique, or "touch style" in another setting, Jordan also performs on both guitar and piano at the same time, playing chords and melodies with his hands on separate instruments and uniquely melding the two sounds into one. More than a technical phenomenon, Jordan conveys an astounding depth of musical expression through a multi-faceted solo repertoire, ranging from bold reinventions of classical masterpieces to improvisational contemporary works. At BAC, Jordan will be joined for several songs by his daughter, New York City-based singer/songwriter Julia Jordan.
