Due to ill health, Sugababe Jade Ewen has regretfully stood down from her role in this spring's forthcoming tour of Godspell In Concert - the legendary rock musical from Stephen Schwartz - the Grammy and Academy Award- winning composer of WICKED. Stepping up to the mark at short notice is Laura Mansell, already a member of the current cast who are in rehearsals ahead of the tour opening at the Hackney Empire today, April 4th.

This spring Godspell In Concert, the legendary rock musical from Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy® and Academy Award®- winning composer of WICKED, returns to the UK's stages and opens at Hackney's Empire Theatre on Easter Saturday, April 4th, ahead of a 28 venue national tour.

Performances begin tonight, Friday, March 20 and run through Sunday, April 12. Press night is scheduled for Opening Night Friday, March 27. Appropriate for ages 17 +. As a concert production, there will be no live nudity, though documentary photographs of the original production will be projected.

Happy Birthday, Stephen Schwartz! In a career spanning over four decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998; music and lyrics) and Enchanted (2007). Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

The national tour of Pippin launched in Denver this week, and host of 'In Focus' Eden Lane sat down for a one-on-one with composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (GODSPELL, WICKED, Pippin, and more). Lane also met the director and driving force behind this re-imagined Pippin, Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. The Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of Hair, the American Tribal Love-Rock musical, which won the Tony and Drama Desk Award for best revival of a musical in 2009, will star Kristen Bell as Sheila, Hunter Parrish as Claude, Amber Riley as Dionne, Jenna Ushkowitz as Jeanie and Beverly D'Angelo as Mom. Producer John Johnson has announced today that Grantland's Men in Blazers will host Men in Blazers: Live on Broadway, an evening to celebrate everything that is glorious and distinct about United States Soccer on Friday, May 30th at 7:30PM at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street). The evening will feature conversation with members from the 1994 U.S. Men's National Team, as well as host members of the current U.S. Men's National Team, to wish them Godspeed before they head down to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In Stage Door Players' production of the now-classic musical GODSPELL, gone are the hippie clowns and folky numbers that have been synonymous with the show for the past four decades. In their place is a high-octane, frenetically-paced explosion of talent. While there is still a sense of the original clown motif, that has been tweaked along with the book, score, and arrangements. Stage Door's production is a regional premiere of the 2012 Broadway Revival script that modernized the songs' arrangements, added a tune from the film version ('Beautiful City'), and made other nips and tucks. If you are a long-time GODSPELL devotee, as I am, there will be little touches that you miss; chief among them Jesus' now-absent Superman T-shirt; but Stage Door's infectiously talented cast nearly makes up for a handful of issues in the original material and some rather glaring directorial missteps.
