Disney has officially been making magic on Broadway for 25 years! As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Disney on Broadway is partnering with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to put on a special benefit to celebrate the momentous occasion. We're getting in on the celebration by looking back at Disney's show-stopping productions, from classics like Beauty and the Beast and Newsies to current favorites like Aladdin and Frozen. As part of Japan Society's 2019-2020 Performing Arts Season, the Society proudly presents a dynamic performance of Japan's scariest ghost stories from Kwaidan, a collection of Japanese folktales by writer Lafcadio Hearn. In this one night only event, acclaimed actor Shiro Sano brings selections from Hearn's tales to life, accompanied by visuals as well powerful live music by distinguished guitarist Kyoji Yamamoto, sharing with audiences a glimpse of Hearn's open-minded view of Japan and the world. Commencing the live performance, folklorist Bon Koizumi, Hearn's great-grandson and Director of the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum in Matsue, Japan, will give a short lecture on the writer's relevance today. Kwaidana?"Call of Salvation Heard from the Depths of Fear takes place Thursday, October 24 at 7:30pm at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street).

New York's leading LGBTQ film festival, NewFest, has announced the full lineup of their 31st annual celebration of the year's best LGBTQ films from around the world. As announced earlier this week, the festival will kick off the festival's 31st edition with the New York premiere of Mike Doyle's Manhattan-set ensemble rom-com SELL BY, featuring an eclectic cast including Scott Evans (Netflix's “Grace and Frankie”), Kate Walsh (ABC's “Grey's Anatomy”), Academy Award-nominee and Emmy Award-winner Patricia Clarkson, Michelle Buteau (Netflix's “Tales of the City”) and Augustus Prew (HIGH-RISE), and will close the festival with the New York premiere of Rodrigo Bellott's award-winning film TU ME MANQUES, which was recently announced as Bolivia's submission for Best International Feature Film selection for the 2019 Academy Awards. 

Ray Charles's Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, Volumes 1 & 2 are major landmarks in American culture. Released during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, the album broke racial barriers and proved that signature performances work in all genres, taking country standards and transforming them into soul and R&B classics.

Take a magical journey under the sea when Musical Theater West (MTW) brings Disney's The Little Mermaid to the Carpenter Performing Arts Center July 12-28.

Disney's THE LION KING is celebrating a sold-out engagement, which concluded on Sunday, May 5 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The triumphant two-week premiere engagement, which played 16 performances from April 24 through May 5, grossed more than $2.5 million at the box office and entertained more than 32,000 theatergoers.

Disney's THE LION KING is celebrating a sold-out record breaking engagement which ended on Sunday, March 31. 

In an extraordinary concert-film event, only the second such screening ever in the United States, the blockbuster film Titanic will be shown on a vast LED outdoor screen with James Horner's epic score performed live by the New West Symphony's renowned orchestra on Saturday night, June 22, in Thousand Oaks.   The special showing will take place at the William Rolland Stadium on the campus of California Lutheran University.

Spend the holiday season on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, with themed programming and family-friendly activities, including: returning favorites spanning rock, Gospel, jazz, and brass; treasured traditions from various Kimmel Center Resident Companies like the Pennsylvania Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Philly POPS; and opportunities for holiday community service and city-wide celebrations.

Disney's THE LION KING grossed over $3.7 million at the box office and entertained more than 44,500 theatergoers during its three-week premiere engagement in Boise. The production, which played The Morrison Center for 24 performances from October 17 - November 4, broke the box office record for the highest gross and number of tickets sold for any single show in the theatre's history.

The Burning Coal Theatre Company is proud to present Conor McPherson's The Weir, the story of what happens on a seemingly quiet evening in a rural Irish pub when the local boys are visited by a stranger. Directed by Jerome Davis, The Weir will play at Burning Coal's Murphey School Auditorium in downtown Raleigh from November 29th through December 16th. There will be a "pay what you can day" on Sunday December 2nd.   Performances are November 29, 30 and December 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15 at 7:30 pm and December 2, 9 & 16th at 2 pm.  Tickets are available now for $25, with a senior discount (65+) at $20, a student, teachers, and active military discount at $15 and student rush tickets for $5 (if available) at curtain. Former Hollywood agent to the stars, producer and author Budd Burton Moss has rounded up some of his closest friends to pay a special tribute to the Silver Screen's Golden Goddess, Rita Hayworth. The celebration of what would be her 100th Birthday, October 17th, 2018, will take place in New York and Hollywood

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts,  which brings audiences world-class theater, dance and music performed by many of the most sought-after artists,presents Chris Walden Big Band with a program that pays tribute to the "Rat Pack" era on Saturday, October 27, 2018, 7:30 pm,in the Bram Goldsmith Theater at The Wallis. Walden, a seven-time Grammy-nominated composer/arranger/conductor, has scored more than 40 feature and TV films and written more than 1,500 orchestral and big band arrangements for artists ranging from Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand to Diana Krall and Rihanna, among many others.

Disney's The Lion King grossed over $4.8 million at the box office and entertained more than 48,000 theatergoers during its three-week return engagement. Presented by Blumenthal Performing Arts, The Lion King played Belk Theater for 24 performances from Wednesday, August 22 through Sunday, September 9.
