The Directors Guild of America  today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2018.

A lost world of seaside entertainment, piers and promenades are brought to life when seasoned Pantomime Dame Ronald Roy Humphrey returns to his Northern roots for the Christmas season. As the curtain falls on the last show of the day, Roy is in a wistful, melancholic mood, but as the years fall away, ghosts and memories from the past confront him with what he has spent his whole life trying to forget.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Metamorphoses. This co-production with the Guthrie Theater is led by nationally and internationally renowned writer and director Mary Zimmerman.

Here's our calendar for December 3, 2018, to help you plot your course through the first few weeks of 2019...

Spend the holiday season on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, with themed programming and family-friendly activities, including: returning favorites spanning rock, Gospel, jazz, and brass; treasured traditions from various Kimmel Center Resident Companies like the Pennsylvania Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Philly POPS; and opportunities for holiday community service and city-wide celebrations.

Disney's THE LION KING grossed over $3.7 million at the box office and entertained more than 44,500 theatergoers during its three-week premiere engagement in Boise. The production, which played The Morrison Center for 24 performances from October 17 - November 4, broke the box office record for the highest gross and number of tickets sold for any single show in the theatre's history.

The Burning Coal Theatre Company is proud to present Conor McPherson's The Weir, the story of what happens on a seemingly quiet evening in a rural Irish pub when the local boys are visited by a stranger. Directed by Jerome Davis, The Weir will play at Burning Coal's Murphey School Auditorium in downtown Raleigh from November 29th through December 16th. There will be a "pay what you can day" on Sunday December 2nd.   Performances are November 29, 30 and December 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15 at 7:30 pm and December 2, 9 & 16th at 2 pm.  Tickets are available now for $25, with a senior discount (65+) at $20, a student, teachers, and active military discount at $15 and student rush tickets for $5 (if available) at curtain. Former Hollywood agent to the stars, producer and author Budd Burton Moss has rounded up some of his closest friends to pay a special tribute to the Silver Screen's Golden Goddess, Rita Hayworth. The celebration of what would be her 100th Birthday, October 17th, 2018, will take place in New York and Hollywood

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts,  which brings audiences world-class theater, dance and music performed by many of the most sought-after artists,presents Chris Walden Big Band with a program that pays tribute to the "Rat Pack" era on Saturday, October 27, 2018, 7:30 pm,in the Bram Goldsmith Theater at The Wallis. Walden, a seven-time Grammy-nominated composer/arranger/conductor, has scored more than 40 feature and TV films and written more than 1,500 orchestral and big band arrangements for artists ranging from Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand to Diana Krall and Rihanna, among many others.

Disney's The Lion King grossed over $4.8 million at the box office and entertained more than 48,000 theatergoers during its three-week return engagement. Presented by Blumenthal Performing Arts, The Lion King played Belk Theater for 24 performances from Wednesday, August 22 through Sunday, September 9.

Priestley's classic thriller An Inspector Calls will kick off a four-city U.S. tour at Shakespeare Theatre Company from November 20 through December 23, 2018.

George Street Playhouse's Educational Touring Theatre, courtesy of support from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and RWJBarnabas Health, will premiere a new musical about the opioid crisis and its impact on teens and families. This original musical was developed in response to the devastating impact prescription opioid misuse, heroin, and fentanyl have had on communities throughout New Jersey. Anytown will premiere on September 25, 2018 at George Street Playhouse as part of a special Spotlight Conference on Opioid Abuse.  The Spotlight Conference will feature a keynote address from New Jersey State Attorney General Gurbir Grewal along with workshops for educators, school administrators, and public health professionals conducted by experts in the field from RWJBarnabas Health's Institute for Prevention and Recovery.  

SJ Presents and WBLS continue the celebration of Circle of Sisters with Circle of Sisters' R&B Live; an extraordinary lineup featuring soul and R&B icons featuring BELL BIV DEVOE, BOBBY BROWN, BRANDY,TAMIA, DRU HILL & 702. The Circle of Sisters' R&B Live concert honors women and the music they love. This star-studded event is set for Sunday, September 30, at 7 p.m. at Prudential Center. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces a broad range of sensory-friendly performances across its Campus throughout the 2018-19 season, with presentations from Broadway Philadelphia and three of the Center's esteemed resident companies including Pennsylvania Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Philly POPS. Part of a Campus-wide commitment to present a diverse tapestry of programming to the Philadelphia community, the upcoming lineup of events furthers the mission of reaching broad and diverse audiences.

You would never guess it, but Newsies was originally a flop when it came out as a Disney movie in 1992. It gained credibility and a cult following after being released to home video. The stage musical came several years later and opened on Broadway in 2012, where it was nominated for eight Tony Awards. Newsies ended up winning two, Best Choreography and Best Original Score. You will understand why when you hear the exhilarating numbers by Alan Menken, who also created the music for Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Sister Act.

Disney's The Lion King grossed over $7.7 million at the box office and entertained more than 100,000 theatergoers during its four week return engagement. Presented by Dallas Summer Musicals and Broadway Across America, The Lion King played The Music Hall at Fair Park for 32 performances from Wednesday, June 13 through Saturday, July 7.
