Merseyside First World War Commemoration Set for 12-14 Sept

This September the city will be taken back in time to 1914 for the Merseyside First World War Commemoration, a special weekend programme of events to mark the 100 year anniversary since Britain entered in to the First World War, brought by The First World War Commemoration Task Group from Fri 12 – Sun 14 September.

PICT Classic Theatre's Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, by Frank McGuinness, opens just about 100 years after the historical WWI events that are authentically portrayed in the performance. Running September 4-20 at the Stephen Foster Memorial, the play, appropriate for ages 12+, leaves audiences with a better emotional understanding of events that changed the course of millions of lives and a sense of the surprising ways that WWI continues to shape the world today.
THE ART OF THE SCORE: Film Week at the Philharmonic to Run 9/16-20

The New York Philharmonic will present the second season of THE ART OF THE SCORE: Film Week at the Philharmonic September 16-20, 2014, offering two concert programs of film music - La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times: The Tramp at 100 - that highlight some of the genre's most distinctive uses of music. Music Director Alan Gilbert opens the New York Philharmonic's 2014-15 season on September 16 with the Opening Gala Concert, La Dolce Vita: The Music of Italian Cinema, with special guest Martin Scorsese, Oscar-winning director and film preservation proponent, who will deliver welcoming and introductory remarks. Award-winning actor, Philharmonic Board Member, and Philharmonic Radio Host Alec Baldwin returns as Artistic Advisor of THE ART OF THE SCORE.

Commissioned by the Finborough Theatre from Cerberus Theatre, the UK premiere and the English world premiere of controversial German playwright Rolf Hochhuth's Sommer 14 - A Dance of Death in a brand new translation opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season today, 5 August 2014 (Press Night: Thursday, 7 August at 7.30pm).
Lyric Opera to Host OVER THERE! 1914 Tribute Benefit at WWI Museum, 8/23

In conjunction with the centennial of World War I and the Kansas City debut of the Pulitzer Prize winning production of Silent Night, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City presents Over There! at the National World War I Museum on Saturday, August 23. This 1914 field dining experience, co-chaired by Trudy and Jack Gabriel, will include a cabaret performance featuring music of the era.
Flat Earth Theatre to Stage PYGMALION, 8/22-30

Exactly one century since its 1914 London premiere, Flat Earth Theatre presents PYGMALION, George Bernard Shaw's classic comedy of manners, newly adapted and directed by local fiction writer and Flat Earth Company Member Devon Jones. This irreverent reimagining of Shaw's time-tested story will run August 22nd - 30th, 2014, and will be the third and final production in Flat Earth's 2014 Season, "Literature in Dystopia."

On Wednesday, July 9, 2014, the Police Athletic League celebrated 100 years of PAL with the opening of the 2014 Summer Playstreets Program. Hundreds of children gathered on a PAL Playstreet at West 151st in Manhattan to play classic street games including marbles, skelly, hopscotch, traditional Double Dutch jump rope, Nok Hockey and the NYPD provided a portable rock climbing wall.
