AN INSPECTOR CALLS has been described in the Washington Post as, 'an episode of 'The Twilight Zone' wrapped in an Agatha Christie mystery,' and after seeing the show at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, I must say that about sums up the play for me. Running at almost two hours without an intermission, at first it seemed to be just a bunch of talking heads yelling loudly with strong British accents – that is until the end when a Rod Serling-like phone call delivers a twist that sets the whole thing into the realm of “what just really happened?”

Fresh from their Grand Prize-winning performance at the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Callisto Quartet makes its Nichols Concert Hall debut November 10 at 7:30 p.m., presented by the Music Institute of Chicago. This is a completely new adventure for Melissa who is professional actor and singer, and a graduate of UC Irvine's BFA Musical Theater program. Her background has primarily been in the performance side of theatrical production, but when she listened to Daddy Long Legs' stunning score (music and lyrics by Paul Gordon) and read the script by John Caird, she knew the story needed to be told--and the thought of taking on a new challenge only made her more eager to jump into the experience.

The musical adaptation of Jean Webster's 1912 novel of the same name returns to LA for the first time in years, unfolding on the stage of the Two Roads Theater for one weekend only September 21-24, 2017. With music & lyrics by Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre, Emma) and book by John Caird (LES MISERABLES, Jane Eyre), Daddy Long Legs transports us back to 1908 and the dreary existence of orphan Jerusha Abbott, just before a mysterious benefactor decides to send her to college and change her life forever. What transpires over the course of this intimate, two-actor play is a heartwarming story of human connection, kindness, and charity.

The old English play An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley has had an interesting, long journey. It was first performed in 1945 and then in the UK in 1946 with an opening on Broadway in 1947 that was, strangely, dubbed as "stale". Over time, interestingly, it has become very successful even winning a couple of Tony awards for its 1994 Broadway revival. You will see why as The Hampton Theatre Company (HTC) has mounted a brilliant production of this riveting story.

Variety is reporting that The Stephen Daldry-helmed revival of his 1992 production of An Inspector Calls, currently running in a limited engagement at the Novello Theater in the West End, will transfer to Wyndhams Theater in early December for a 16-week run. This move will fill the gapfor the theater created by the early closing of The Shawshank Redemption, as previously announced.
