This gritty, gripping, and shockingly funny world premiere tosses audiences into a revolutionary Philadelphia court designed by a passionate group of women. Every day these lawyers, judges, parole officers and staff members work to transform the lives of women repeatedly convicted for prostitution. In her daring and vital new play Project Dawn, playwright Karen Hartman probes the thin lines between freedom and slavery, activism and obsession, for women on both sides of the law. Inspired by Hartman's extensive, first-hand research inside Philly's real-life court system, and cast with seven actresses who play multiple characters, this production represents the first world premiere to emerge from the acclaimed New Play Frontiers Residency & Commission program at People's Light. Palm Beach Dramaworks Announces A New Cabaret Series

Come hear the music play! Palm Beach Dramaworks is pleased to announce the launching of its first-ever cabaret series, which will take place in the Perlberg Studio Theatre. The premiere event, which runs from June 9 - June 11, features local favorite Laura Hodos performing her acclaimed show, Julie and Mary and Ethel and Babs!, a program of songs associated with musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, and Barbra Streisand. Selections include numbers from such shows as My Fair Lady, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Gypsy, and Funny Girl. Hodos will be accompanied by Paul Reekie at the piano. (more...)

Bergen County Players Presents STANDING ON CEREMONY THE GAY MARRIAGE PLAYS

Bergen County Players (BCP) concludes its 84th season with a staged reading of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. Conceived by BCP alum Brian Shnipper and directed by Mark Rinis, this anthology of monologues and short plays began as a series of benefit events in Los Angeles, taking on a life of their own as an inspiring theatrical evening. The show will only run two nights, June 10 and 11 at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell.
