In 1992, a small fishing town in Nova Scotia, Canada launched the Liverpool International Theatre Festival, hoping to attract tourism. Little Theatre of Norfolk will perform there this fall under director John B. Gillis, who lived in Nova Scotia back when the festival first formed. Gillis took a few moments away from directing and fundraising to tell us about the theatre festival and the show he's bringing there, The Commedia Rapunzel.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Actress/LA theatre inaugurator, Penny Fuller has embarked on a new leg of her career as a cabaret artiste. I had the most delightful opportunity to chat with the vibrant, vivacious Ms. Fuller. To launch its 50th anniversary season, The Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) will revisit its very first production, 'Day of Absence' (1966) by Douglas Turner Ward, with an eight-performance run December 4-11 at Theatre 80 St. Marks, 80 St. Mark's Place. The season will include three more productions at Theatre 80 St. Marks and one at La MaMa.
