The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the Shakespeare in the Park production of Euripides' THE BACCHAE, directed by JoAnne Akalaitis with original music by Philip Glass and translated by Nicholas Rudall. Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will play the lead role of Pentheus joining George Bartenieff as Cadmus; André De Shields as Teiresias; Jonathan Groff as Dionysus; Karen Kandel as Chorus Leader; Joan MacIntosh as Agave; Steven Rishard as Cowherd; and Rocco Sisto as Messenger.

Variety is reporting that stage and screen star Liev Schreiber is in talks to star opposite Angelina Jolie in the spy thriller 'SALT' for Columbia Pictures. Phillip Noyce will direct the film.

Desire Under the Elms has just announced that it will transfer from Chicago's Goodman Theatre to Broadway's St. James Theater. Previews will begin on April 14, with opening night set for April 27th.

SuperheroHype/ComingSoon.net reports that Tony-winning actor Liev Schreiber is currently 'baring his fangs' in the upcoming X-Men spin-off Wolverine, starring Tony Award-winner Hugh Jackman in the title role. Schreiber plays the iconic role of Victor Creed better known to comic fans as 'Sabertooth'.

Next month, Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman returns to Berkeley Repertory Theatre with an alluring adaptation of The Arabian Nights. This is Zimmerman's sixth trip to Berkeley Rep, and for the first time she works her magic on the intimate Thrust Stage. The Arabian Nights runs from November 13 through January 4 with the official press night on November 19.
