BWW Interview: Shane O'Regan on a young soldier's experience of WWI in PRIVATE PEACEFUL

The Irish Times Best Actor nominee Shane O'Regan stars in PRIVATE PEACEFUL, Simon Reade's stage adaptation of the novel by Michael Morpurgo, the celebrated author of WAR HORSE. This story of World War One charts the life of a young soldier, Thomas 'Tommo' Peaceful, who faces the firing squad for cowardice. After critically acclaimed tours across Ireland in 2017 and 2018, the production recently embarked on a tour of the U.S. and is now playing at Chicago's Greenhouse Theater. I had the opportunity to interview Shane O'Regan and discuss the tragedy of WWI, the beauty of Michael Morpurgo's writing, and the challenge of playing 24 characters in a one-man show.

Six strangers gather at a dinner party to meet a mysterious guest only to find themselves trapped in the middle of a murder. The show mixes audience sleuthing with fast-paced improv comedy and never ends the same way twice. MURDER MANOR opens Today October 5th @ 8PM and runs every Today in October. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door or online at csztix.com.

Florida Studio Theatre Announces New Summer Play Reading Workshops

Following a well-received Sarasota Festival of New Plays this past spring, Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces an addition to its New Play Development program. Three new works will be staged throughout the month of August featuring some of the latest work by George Brant, Barry Harman and Keith Herrmann, and Sandy Rustin. "Good comedies with exciting stories are hard to find and we have found three well-crafted tales from various eras, points of view, and comedic angles," shared FST Associate Artist Catherine Randazzo. Talkbacks will follow each reading, giving audiences the chance to engage with each piece more deeply, while also giving playwrights valuable feedback. These readings are free and open to the public, though reservations are required.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET is Back at Geva for a Special Limited Run

As last season's closer, Geva Theatre Center's production of Million Dollar Quartet was a complete sell-out and was extended for an additional week. By popular demand, the show is back for a limited run, special production in the Elaine P. Wilson Stage from June 14 to July 8. With a book by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, based on an original concept by Floyd Mutrux and inspired by the music of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, Million Dollar Quartet is directed by Hunter Foster.
