Lincoln Center's acclaimed American Songbook series returns for its 18th season of celebrating the best in American singing and songwriting. During February and March 2016, established and rising singers and singer-songwriters across a range of genres-Southern soul, bluegrass, folk, R&B, indie rock, pop, musical theater, and more-will take The Appel Room stage for concerts that explore the many iterations of American song. And in spring, American Songbook will return to Alice Tully Hall with two dynamic women whose artistry in two very different arenas demonstrates the expansive reach of American song embodied in the series.

Waterwell announced today the revival of the Blueprint Specials, a series of lost WWII-era musicals composed principally by Broadway legend Frank Loesser to be presented in association with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival. The production will star Tony Award nominees Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde) and Will Swenson (Hair) and be directed by Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely.

According to Variety, Jeff Nathanson has signed on as the writer for Disney's latest live-action reboot, The Lion King. As BroadwayWorld reported in September, Jon Favreau is slated to direct the film. Nathanson wrote the screenplay for Catch Me If You Can, which was later adapted into a musical starring Aaron Tveit and Norbert Leo Butz. The Broadway production was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The new Stan Zimmerman & Christian McLaughlin play, Knife to the Heart, a comedy about circumcision, will hold a private reading on October 16, 2016, at Los Angeles's Lex Theatre. The cast for the reading will include Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland), Todd Sherry (Parks & Recreation), Katie Walder (How I Met Your Mother), and Josh Zuckerman (Desperate Housewives). Improbable has today announced the appointment of Ben Monks as Executive Director. Monks joins Improbable from his current position as producer for Supporting Wall, having co-founded the company in 2008. Monks will work closely with Artistic Directors Phelim McDermott and Lee Simpson, as Rachael Williams leaves the company after three years in the position.
Joining Improbable in September 2016, Ben Monks will be integral to marking the company's upcoming 21st anniversary year and new programme of work, soon to be announced.
