General Director Ken McConnell and Artistic Director Tobias Picker today announced Tulsa Opera's 73rd season comprising Verdi's Rigoletto; Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in a new production with dance; and Mr. Picker and librettist Aryeh Lev Stollman's new opera Awakenings, based on the book by Oliver Sacks and directed by Tulsa native James Robinson. 

The Emelin Theatre for the Performing Arts has released their schedule for upcoming January and February events:

Para recordar las ocho décadas del exilio español en México, el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), a través del Centro Nacional de Investigación, Documentación e Información Musical Carlos Chávez (Cenidim), llevará a cabo la jornada 80 años del exilio español: influencias y aportaciones a la vida musical de México, el jueves 24 de octubre a partir de las 11:00 horas en la Sala 4 Agustín Caballero del Conservatorio Nacional de Música.

El Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil recuerda a Álvar Carrillo Gil (6 de julio, 1898 - 5 de octubre, 1974), quien en 1938 comenzó a reunir, junto con su esposa Carmen Tejero, una de las colecciones más importantes de arte moderno en México que incluye el conjunto más significativo de obra de caballete, grabado y dibujo de José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera y David Alfaro Siqueiros. La colección que formó también comprende obras de Gunther Gerzso, Wolfang Paalen, Luis Nishizawa, así como una gran cantidad de estampa japonesa de los siglos XVII a XX, obras gráficas de artistas de la vanguardia europea, además de obra de su propia autoría.

Inaugurado el 20 de septiembre de 1964, el Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) celebra más de medio siglo de resguardar las obras más destacadas del arte mexicano. El público podrá ver reunidos el emblemático cuadro de Las dos Fridas, piezas surrealistas de los acervos de Remedios Varo e imágenes de Manuel Álvarez Bravo, además de óleos de los llamados Tres grandes: Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros y José Clemente Orozco, así como notables piezas de arte abstracto y obras del recién fallecido maestro oaxaqueño Francisco Toledo, entre otros.

Juilliard's Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts, under the leadership of artistic director Brian Zeger, announces its 2019-20 season of opera and vocal arts performances. Highlights of the upcoming season include three mainstage operas: Mozart's Così fan tutte, conducted by alumnus Nimrod David Pfeffer and directed by faculty member David Paul, on November 13, 15, and 17, 2019, in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater; Virgil Thomson's The Mother of Us All, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's MetLiveArts and the New York Philharmonic with Juilliard singers, conducted by Daniela Candillari and directed by Louisa Proske, on February 8, 11, 12, and 14, 2020, in the Charles Engelhard Court at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and Puccini's La bohème, conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson and directed by Stephen Wadsworth, on April 22, 24, and 26, 2020, in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

Perhaps Leonard Bernstein's most uplifting composition is paired with one of the most significant compositions by musical master Ludwig van Beethoven's in "Bernstein and Beethoven: Part II" on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore.

The line between Broadway-type musical theatre and opera becomes finer by the year--though I dare say that TOOTSIE is unlikely to be showing up at the Met any time soon. But the Kurt Weill-Ira Gershwin-Moss Hart LADY IN THE DARK might have morphed in a slightly different, better piece of music theatre if it arrived in the 21st century rather than World War II.

One of Leonard Bernstein's most iconic compositions will be paired with the legendary Ludwig van Beethoven's most celebrated work in "Bernstein and Beethoven: Part I" on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. As a continued celebration of the Leonard Bernstein Centennial, world-renowned pianist Michael Brown will join Philharmonic Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski and the National Philharmonic in performing Bernstein's Symphony No. 2 ("The Age of Anxiety"), a genre-defying work that combines elements of symphony, concerto, and program music and is inspired by the dramatic poem The Age of Anxiety by W.H. Auden. After an intermission, Gajewski will lead the Philharmonic in Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67. This timeless work is one of the most performed, recorded, adapted, and abused of all the works in Beethoven's canonical repertoire. A pre-concert lecture will take place between 6:45-7:15 p.m. From 7-7:30 p.m., families can explore orchestral instruments with Philharmonic musicians. International Flamenco sensation, Olga Pericet, was awarded today with the National Dance Award for 2018 in Spain. This award represents the highest recognition in dance for her versatility and projection on stage.

“Para mí la literatura mexicana es un conjunto de textos siempre abiertos a la interpretación, hechos por escritoras y escritores que se circunscriben sobre todo en nuestro territorio. Es una literatura que se abre, que se desarrolla, que cruza géneros, que es híbrida y que es mestiza”, expresó en entrevista la investigadora Sara Poot-Herrera, quien será reconocida en el ciclo Protagonistas de la literatura mexicana.

Bay Area Cabaret announces its 15th Anniversary Season of shows, its ninth at the legendary Venetian Room (Fairmont Hotel 950 Mason Street atop Nob Hill). Theatre Tulsa has announced that the final "Broadway Series" production of its 95th season will be "The Producers."

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) celebrates the third year of its four-year residency at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the performing arts (The Soraya) with a program of works that celebrates the company's commitment to creating new contemporary dance on Saturday, April 7 at 8:00pm. ASFB will perform the new work Half/Cut/Split by world-renowned Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo, as well as Where We Left Off (2011) commissioned by ASFB and choreographed by Nicolo Fonte, and Return to a Strange Land (1975) from Ji?i Kylian, Artistic Director of Nederlands Dans Theater with music by Leoš Jana?ek.
