King of Cuba, a new comedy by award-winning writer Cristina Garcia, has extended through August 26th at the historic Berkeley City Club (originally scheduled to close August 19). In King of Cuba, two aging Cubanos hilariously have a go at each other. Opening night Marga was described as 'dethroning machismo,' while the house erupted as El Comandante (Marga Gomez) remarked "Nobody has bigger cojones than I do." The night then roiled with laughter as the two silver haired Cubanos 'knock each other down' verbally and otherwise.

A remarkably moving, brilliantly funny love story, Gently Down The Stream reflects the triumphs and heartbreaks of the entire length of the gay rights movement, celebrating and mourning the ghosts of the men and women who led the way for equality, marriage, and the right to dream. Presented by Brave New Productions (celebrating 15 years) in special partnership with Fierte Montreal, Gently Down The Stream runs from August 2-11 (see various times below) at Mainline Theatre. Fresh off the heels of their acclaimed Fringe run of Buyer & Cellar, Gently Down The Stream is a unique combination of an unexpected love story coupled with an intense and personal exploration of gay rights through history.

PBS Announces 'Reconstruction: America After the Civil War,' A New Documentary from Henry Louis Gates, Jr., to Air Spring 2019 on PBS

Co-created by Lucy J Skilbeck and an ensemble of queer, trans and drag performers, Milk Presents is set to tour its cabaret-inflected take on the myth of the Minotaur. BULLISH uses the Ancient Greek myth to explore contemporary identity and our fear of otherness. BULLISH premiered at Camden People's Theatre last year as the headline show in the venue's Come As You Are Festival of trans, non-binary and gender queer theatre. Some of the tour dates are part of a Come As You Are Festival tour (highlighted in listings) and will have additional shows and talks programmed alongside.

In 2017, Camden People's Theatre staged Come As You Are, a festival celebrating trans, non-binary and gender-queer identities: this year, for the first time ever, CPT will tour a host of artists, including some of the festival highlights, to venues across the UK with shows that explode and explore ideas around gender and sexuality, searching the rubble for answers, and passing the mic to the lesser heard voices of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.

The summer adventure of the Central Works 2018 season King of Cuba, is developed by Ms. Garcia in the Central Works Writers Workshop featuring the lesbian-gender-bending comedian Marga Gomez, and the Grammy-winning 'bongocero' Carlos Caro. All are Cubanx celebrities living in the Bay Area. Directed by Gary Graves, the full cast includes Marco Aponte, Leticia Duarte, Elena Garrity, Marga Gomez*, Ben Ortega and Steve Ortiz.(*SAG)

Casting is now complete for the Lyceum premiere of the fast-paced musical, Footloose, based on the movie and filled with all the songs that made that soundtrack an enduring classic.

For its 30th anniversary season, Repercussion Theatre presents Romeo & Juliet: Love is Love from July 5th to August 8th, 2018. The largest Shakespeare-in-the-Park (SITP) tour that Repercussion Theatre has had in a decade-with 30 shows to mark the anniversary-makes the usual rounds of local parks as well as visits to the West Island, the Eastern Townships, the Laurentians, Eastern Ontario and Quebec's Monteregie with two additional locations: the Olympic Park and Hawkesbury. The Montreal opening is July 6th at Mount Royal Cemetery; the West Island opening is July 5th at Baie d'Urfe's Fritz Farm, and the Ontario opening is in Cornwall on July 7th at the appropriately named Lamoureux Park. All shows begin at 7pm.

But in Wallace Shawn's 1978 American masterpiece, facts are slippery things. In this radical re-imagining at JACK, two multi-disciplinary artists play the combative titular couple and head up the design team. Joined by an ensemble of some of Brooklyn's sharpest comedic voices, Gordon Landenberger (Bruce) and trans actress Theda Hammel (Marie) double as the set and sound designers, respectively, for this hilarious and timely new production.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and Joe's Pub at The Public join forces once again for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the tutelage of Jay Wahl, Producing Artistic Director of the Kimmel Center, and Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, the program serves as an incubator for artists and their collaborators to create and develop music and theater projects. The program will be held in the Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio (300 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 18-30 with Public Readings, free and open to the public, on June 29 and 30. Readings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the artists.

Incoming American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon announced today that Eugene Ionesco's RHINOCEROS-translated by Derek Prouse and directed by two-time Tony Award winner Frank Galati-will be the final production of A.C.T.'s 2018-19 season.

Following a successful 2017 season at Hayes Theatre, Dean Bryant's (Director) brilliantly crafted production of ASSASSINS has opened for an encore season at the Sydney Opera House.

After handing Prime Minister Theresa May her P45 during the Conservative Party Conference before being frogmarched out and swiftly arrested, this spring will see Simon Brodkin embark on the third leg of his hit stand-up tour 'Serious Joker' as the impish Lee Nelson with 29 dates added across the country, including two shows at London's Leicester Square Theatre on 30th May and 14th June, bringing the tour to 153 dates. Lee will be coming to a town near you from Wednesday 2nd May with tickets on general sale from 26th January at leenelson.com.

LAUNDRYFEST will make its world premiere at The Soap Box, 110 Saratoga Ave, Brooklyn NY 11233. The show will be comprised of site specific and site responsive pieces in an actual laundromat. The festival, produced by The Motor Company (Lillian Meredith, Artistic Director; Jessica Schmidt, Producing Director), will feature new short plays and musicals by Sean Pollock, Billy Recce, Ben Holbrook and Cherry Lou Sy. Directors include NJ Agwuna, David Kahawaii, Phoebe Padget, and Lillian Meredith. The festival is co-curated and co-produced by Sean Pollock. The performance schedule is Today, June 8th, Saturday June 9th, Today, June 15th, and Saturday June 16th at 9:00PM; Sunday June 10th and Sunday June 17th at 7:00PM. Admission is free of charge to the public.
