Irish Arts Center presents Masters in Collaboration XII: Rhiannon Giddens Meets Dirk Powell (February 9-11), the next chapter in a series that, since its launch in 2008, has consistently served as a risk-rewarding incubator and platform for the merging of musical talents outside the dynamics of the commercial marketplace. Last season, the collaboration between Cassandra Wilson and Liam Maonla fostered at IAC blossomed into an international tour to Dublin, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, with an ensemble of top jazz, folk and Irish musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, in a performance where their innate musicality allowed their distinct vocabularies to speak as one (Chicago Tribune).

The Alley Theatre's Alley All New Festival, January 20-28, 2018, features six playwrights and more than 30 actors from the Alley and around the country who will be presenting new work through a series of readings and workshop performances. In addition to Alley Resident Company members, many artists have existing connections to the Alley and some are making their Alley debut. The start of the festival will celebrate the reopening of the Neuhaus Theatre. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents an encore of choreographer Jodi Melnick's sold-out 2016 commission, NEW BODIES. This Works & Process commissioned work weaves together dance, spoken text, and moderated discussion with live music, featuring New York City Ballet dancers Jared Angle, Sara Mearns, and Taylor Stanley in a role originated by Gretchen Smith, with harpsichord by composer Gy rgy Ligeti, violin by composer Heinrich Biber, and commissioned music by Robert Boston.Also, Melnick, who enjoyed a performance career with Twyla Tharp (among many others), will perform One of Sixty-Five Thousand Gestures, a solo work created in collaboration with the late Trisha Brown.
