A funny thing happened on the evening of May 22, 2016, at the Metropolitan Opera House, where ABT was presenting Alexei Ratmansky's 'Shostakovich Trilogy.' There were lots of empty seats. Since Ratmansky's reputation has pretty much enveloped the entire ballet world, I was very surprised to see this. On the other hand, an evening of three Shostakovich works can be enervating, putting high demands on the eyes and ears of an audience. Many might prefer to just stay away.

A.C.T. favorite and Academy Award nominee, David Strathairn (Underneath the Lintel at A.C.T.; film: 'Good Night, and Good Luck,' 'Lincoln,' 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'), returns to American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) for a three-week engagement of Joseph Dougherty's Chester Bailey beginning today, May 25 at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater. The production is currently scheduled to run through June 12.

Pacific Symphony to Present Youth Orchestra Concert, 3/20

Orange County, Calif.—Feb. 29, 2016—An outstanding performance by Southern California's most talented young symphonic musicians, grades 9-12, is on tap when Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO) rules the stage for a diverse and entertaining spring concert led by Assistant Conductor Roger Kalia.
